    • Abstract Steel industries play an important role in sustainable economic growth of a nation. It can be enhanced by developing and demonstrating advanced energy efficient technology and through adoption of world class energy efficient practices. Coke is an essential input for iron making process. Coke oven department plays a vital role in energy aspect in integrated steel plant where coke oven gas recovered during carbonization process which is used as fuel in coke making as well as in other department, therefore, optimization of specific heat consumption at coke oven will reduce the coke oven gas consumption, carbon emission as well as SOX, NOX and SPM. Theoretically the average value of specific heat consumption for the production of coke per kg of coal is 540kcal/kg. Practically this value ranges in-between 648-756 kcal/kg of coal. In this research work possible source of heat loss are tried to be identified and remedial solutions are suggested to minimize the loss of heat.
