摘要： 391,059. Arc lamps. ANDERSON, N. J. and RIGBY, Ltd., R., Premier Works, Little James Street, London. Nov. 15, 1932, No. 32282. [Class 39 (i).] A carbon-holder consists of a tube A having an hexagona portion B and a threaded portion C on to which a nut D is screwed. Links G1, G2 having chamfered portions H1, H2 are pivoted in slots E1, E2 by pins F1, F2. The end of the threaded portion C is chamfered to correspond with the faces H1, H2, and the latter are curved to fit smoothly round the former. Jaws K1, K2 having carbon-clamping grooves L1, L2 are pivoted on to the links G1, G2 so that when the nut D is screwed on to the portion C the links are opened at H1, H2 and the jaws KI, K2 are closed to grip any size of carbon. The carbon-holder or at least the links and jaws are preferably made of nickel.

[Class 80 (iv).] Guards for milling- machines and the like comprise two guard-plates f lying on each side of the tool and each carried by a separate rod g which is adjustable longitudinally and rotarily in the machine frame or in a frame consisting of two plates a, clamped on the machine by clamping rods b, and a distance rod d. The rods g are secured in adjusted position by screws h and carry adjustable stops i engaging the ends of the rods b or stops on the frame to position the guards at the required distance from the tool. The plates a may be arranged at right-angles to the position shown. The guard-plates may each be formed in two sections interconnected by adjusting screws f , and interchangeable lower sections may be provided. The front guard may be painted red internally so as to be readily noticeable when it is turned up out of guarding position.
