    • A cap removal device for a removing a cap which is slidably mounted on a container comprises a body having opposing side walls 2,3 extending between a first open end 7 and a second closed end 6. An aperture extends from the first end 7 towards the second end 6, and a flange 12 extends inwardly from a bottom end of the slide walls 2,3 to define a slot 11. In use, a cap of a container is engageable in the aperture with a neck of a container extending through the slot 11 and upon relative sliding movement of the device and the container, the flange 12 engages a lower edge of the cap to retain it in the aperture whilst the neck of the container is retracted from the device, thus removing the cap from the container. Preferably at least one projection 14, which maybe in the form of a ramp 14a, extends from the flange 12 of each side wall 2,3 at a position which is spaced apart from the closed end 6so as to form a constriction in the aperture. The projection 14 and the closed end 6 together define a capture region (15, fig 2) into which, in use, a cap of a container is engageable and a plurality of clamping projections 16 may also be included in the capture region (15, fig2) to, in use, further engage a surface of the cap thus helping to retain the cap in position. The device may also be used to place the cap back onto the container.

    • A cap removal (1) device comprises a body having opposed side walls (2, 3) extending between a first open end (7) and a second substantially closed end (5) formed by a curved end wall (6), an internal aperture (8) extending from said open end (7) towards said closed end (5). A flange (12) extends inwardly from a bottom edge of said side walls (2, 3) and curved end wall (6) so as to define a slot (11) in the bottom (10) of the device which is narrower than said internal aperture (8) and which extends from said open end (7) towards said closed end (5) of the device. The width of the slot (11) is sufficient to allow the mouth of a container such as a test tube or the like easily to pass therethrough but no a cap attached thereto. A cap may therefore enter said aperture (8) through said open end (7) of the device with the neck of the container extending though said slot (11), and moved all the way to the closed end (5), where the container may be removed by relative movement of the device axially away from the container, such movement engaging the cap into a capture region (15) formed proximate to the closed end, the flange (12) engaging a lower edge of the cap so as to retain it within said aperture.
