    • An image processing method and an image processing apparatus converts a binary image into a grayscale image by increasing the size and information quantity of the binary image. The image processing method includes generating a plurality of lookup tables having multiple gray level values assigned to a predetermined pattern of the binary image such that the gray level is retrieved from the plurality of lookup tables depending on the context of the block being processed. The binary image may be converted into the grayscale image by applying the gray value of one of the plurality of lookup tables that corresponds to the context, such as the frequency components of the binary image. With this configuration, since the size and information quantity of an image can be reduced for transmission, it is possible to prevent deterioration of image quality when the image is restored, while also printing at a higher speed.

    • An image forming apparatus provides enhancement of image quality. The image forming apparatus includes a window generating unit to generate a main window of a predetermined size using a Lines Per Inch (LPI) and an angle of a dithering mask, and to generate a plurality of subwindows within the generated main window, a determining unit to determine the presence of an edge area by applying the plurality of generated subwindows to a binary image and according to pixel values of the binary image that correspond to the subwindows, and a control unit to determine a dot size of a central reference pixel at the center of the main window, according to the presence and absence of the edge area. Because image quality is enhanced adaptively according to edge and smooth areas, print quality improves.

    • A method of and apparatus to enhance the printing quality of a laser printer, in which a window to define a binary image is generated using a plurality of Ipi values and angles of a dithering mask and the quality of a non-edge region is improved. Using a plurality of Ipi values and angles of the dithering mask improves the quality of color images, which require several channels for printing.
