    • 1351910 Purifying sugar solutions; electrodialysis TAITO K K and ASAHI KASEI KOGYO K K 7 June 1972 [7 June 1971] 26624/72 Headings C6B and C7B A sugar solution is desalinated by electrodialysis between cation exchange membranes K and non-selective ion-permeable membranes P made of a polymer having a vinyl alcohol structure in which the mole fraction of vinyl alcohol groups is from 10 to 100%. The apparatus shown has concentration and dilution compartments C, D, respectively, and electrodes E. The electrodialysis may be used in addition to a conventional sugar refining process, e.g. carbonation. Production of the material for the P membranes is by a copolymerization process, e.g. an emulsion or suspension polymerization carried out in a closed vessel at a temperature of from 0 to 120‹ C, using at least one vinyl ester, at least one monomeric compound copolymerizable therewith, an initiator, and a solvent. Suitable vinyl esters include vinyl formate, vinyl diethyl acetate, vinyl t-butyl acetate, vinyl benzoate, vinyl 2, 4-dimethyl pentanoate, vinyl laurate, vinyl isocaproate, vinyl salicylate, vinyl palmitate and vinyl sulphonate, and suitable compounds that are copolymerizable therewith include vinyl halides, unsaturated mono- and di-basic acids and their esters, and unsaturated aliphatic and vinyl-substituted aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons. Suitable initiators are those employed for free radical copolymerizations, e.g. organic and inorganic peroxides, and azobisnitriles. After the membrane has been formed, e. g. by casting, and some or all of the ester groups have been hydroxylated or saponified to hydroxyl groups, it may be heated and partially esterified to provide it with dimensional stability in aqueous solutions. In one example the P membrane is reinforced by a woven fabric of polypropylene fibres.

    • A target position aimed at by a gun (2) in a computer-controlled gun shooting game is detected. Data representative of the position of the gun aiming at the target are derived from X- and Y-volumes (3, 4). The data is subjected to analog-to-digital conversion to provide decimal values. The decimal values are translated to coordinate values which represent a position on a monitor screen (1a) on which the target is displayed. To perform the translation, the X- and Y-volume data are derived while sequentially moving the gun (2) to aim at two reference marks (22a and 22b, or 22b and 22c) displayed at corner and center positions of the monitor screen (1a). By multiplying a ratio of a distance between two reference marks on the screen (1a) to the gun moving distance to the decimal values, the target position is represented by coordinate values of the screen (1a). With such a procedure performed prior to starting the gun shooting game, the target detection accuracy is preserved despite the position of the gun placed or the distance between the gun (2) and the monitor screen (1a).

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a badge which can be attached with a miniature such as a character, an animal, or the like, to clothes safely, simply and in a presentable and stable condition. SOLUTION: On a back face of a base plate 1 holding a miniature 2, a hollow ditch 5 is formed which admits to let in a part of cloth or woven fabric of the clothes, a safety pin 3 on which two needles are mounted projectedly from a knob part 7 is slidably installed in the base plate 1, and on a face side of the base plate 1, there is formed a knob-housing sink part 6 which admits to detachably accommodate the knob part 7. In the knob part 7 stopper claws that are spring-natured and can be biased in the pushing direction of the safety pin 3 are provided in one piece, and in the knob-housing sink part 6, step parts are formed to control dropping out of the safety pin by engaging with the stopper claws. The whole badge is possible to be held to cloth or woven fabric by making the two needles of the safety pin penetrate the cloth or woven fabric in the hollow ditch and traversing the hollow ditch.
