    • Systems and apparatuses are provided for vibration confinement and stress management in a loudspeaker. In one embodiment, the loudspeaker comprises a diaphragm that extends from an inner diaphragm region (e.g., dome or cone-shaped) to an outer diaphragm region, wherein the outer diaphragm region bends at a defined angle (e.g., between about 45 degrees and about 135 degrees) relative to the inner diaphragm region. The loudspeaker also comprises a suspension member extending from an inner suspension region to an outer suspension region, the inner suspension region overlapping and attaching with the outer diaphragm region. The bend in the diaphragm isolates the inner diaphragm region from spurious vibrations in the suspension member.

    • This invention provides a transducer having at least two surrounds supporting a cylinder. With at least two surrounds, the transducer may handle more power. This increased power may be used to drive the voice coil that is wrapped around the cylinder enabling a greater excursion range of the diaphragm. With a greater excursion range, the transducer may operate at low frequency as well as mid to high frequencies. The two surrounds may also be coupled to the cylinder increasing stability of the cylinder. With the two suspensions stabilizing the cylinder, the side-to-side movement of the cylinder may be reduced minimizing the chance of the voice coil short-circuiting with the other electrical and/or mechanical circuits in the transducer. In addition, the cylinder made a substantially rigid material may better support the two flexible surrounds so that the two surrounds do not induce wobbling in the diaphragm.

    • A software product for optimizing sound reproduction by an audio system is disclosed. In one embodiment, the software includes an equalization engine for independently adjusting characteristics of an audio signal for each of a plurality of frequency bands. The software then passes the adjusted signal to a dynamics engine having independently adjustable attack and release thresholds and attack and release rate settings to enforce a maximum excursion limit of the speaker driver knowing the voltage-to-excursion relationship for the speaker driver. The software then passes the audio signal to a bass enhancement engine configured to boost all bass frequencies below a bass roll-off frequency of the speaker driver. The boosted signal is passed to a dedicated dynamics engine for the boosted bass frequencies, the dynamics engine again having independently adjustable attack and release thresholds and attack and release rate settings to enforce a maximum excursion limit of the speaker driver.
