    • A medium particularly for use in the preparation of streptomycin by the growth of Streptomyces griseus comprises in aqueous solution, a carbohydrate selected from monosaccharides and a polysaccharide hydrolysable thereto, and a mixture of salts furnishing lactate, phosphate, ammonium, magnesium, potassium and zinc ions. A temperature of 22-32 DEG C. is preferably used in the surface or submerged technique and the solution may be buffered at a pH of 6.5 to 7.5 with potassium dihydrogen phosphate or dipotassium hydrogen phosphate. The carbohydrate starting material may be glucose, d. mannose, or d. galactose; or maltose, dextrin, glycogen or starch. The lactate may be added as the ammonium or sodium salt, and the metallic salts in the form of sulphate, chlorides, phosphates, nitrates or acetates. In addition, calcium carbonate, and sodium, ferrous, manganous, copper, molybdenum, mercuric, cobaltous, strontium, tungsten and arsenic salts may be added.ALSO:A medium for culturing micro-organisms comprises in aqueous solution a carbohydrate selected from monosaccharides and polysaccharides hydrolysable thereto and a mixture of salts furnishing lactate, phosphate, ammonium, magnesium, potassium and zinc ions. The medium is preferably used for the preparation of streptomycin by the growth of Streptomyces griseus by surface or submerged technique at a temperature of 22 DEG -32 DEG C with a solution buffered with potassium dihydrogen phosphate or dipotassium hydrogen phosphate to give a pH between 6.5 and 7.5. The carbohydrate starting material may be glucose, d. mannose or d. galactose: or maltose, dextrin, glycogen or starch. The lactate may be added as the ammonium or sodium salt and the metallic salts in the form of sulphates, chlorides, phosphates, nitrates or acetates.     • A multi-function wire stripping band tool generally for electricians that has a wire stripping system for a controlled cut and strip of the insulation from a wire. The tool includes an elongated body member having a longitudinal cavity and a transverse opening therein which communicates with the longitudinal cavity and one end of the body member. A stationary cutting blade is disposed in the inner end of the longitudinal cavity, and a movable cutting blade is movably mounted within an upper end of the longitudinal cavity. A spring is disposed between and engaged with a push button actuator so as to urge the movable blade to an open and retracted position. The wire stripping system is engaged with a handle region of the hand tool, and permits stripping in a direction that is perpendicular a longitudinal axis of the multi-function hand tool. The wire stripping system may be used from either side of the hand tool, and may be provided with a plurality of first and second operably engaged housings for securing a number of tool bit members.

    • A ratcheting tool, such as a screwdriver having multiple reversible bits in which a ratchet assembly is located in the screwdriver handle closer to the rear end of the handle, being the end opposite the screwdriver shank. Extending from the ratchet in a direction toward the shank, but at least partially within the handle, is a ratchet drive tube having an interior cross-section which is hexagonal. The screwdriver shank is a tube with both ends,having hexagonal interior cross-sections into which interchangeable double-ended drive bits with mating hexagonal shoulders may be partially inserted, with a portion of each hexagonal shoulder remaining exposed. The exposed portion of the hexagonal shoulder opposite the bit selected for use is inserted into the mating hexagonal ratchet drive tube. Driving rotation of the handle is transmitted to the selected bit in use through the ratchet and ratchet drive tube to the shoulder of the unselected bit, to the screwdriver shank and to the shoulder of the selected bit. Each double-ended bit may be reversed in the shank and the shank may be reversed in the ratchet drive tube. Means are provided in a modified embodiment to restrain the ratchet from being pushed out of the handle under applied force of use.
