    • A scanning apparatus for scanning a hologram is capable of filtering off a holographic picture in the hologram. The hologram includes an image layer having an image to be scanned and a laser layer having the holographic picture. The laser layer has a maximum penetrable incidence. Light with an incidence larger than the maximum penetrable incidence fails to pass through due to light reflection so as to prohibit the image light of the image layer from light transmission. The scanning apparatus includes a load platform and a chassis. The load platform is used for placing the hologram thereon. Besides, the chassis includes a light source for emitting a light. When the scanning apparatus performs scanning, light penetrates the image layer to reflect the image to be scanned and further penetrates the laser layer. After a signal processing procedure, a scanned image is obtained without being influenced by the holographic picture.

    • The present invention is a system and method that facilitates the reduction of presentation glitches in a digital video system. The present invention is a system and method that automatically determines if digital video (DV) data is missing from a stream of DV information and replaces or patches missing DV data with appropriate information to reduce the appearance of interruptions in the video (e.g., glitches in presentations). A communication packet carrying application data is received by an application data patching computer system. In one embodiment of the present invention, an IEEE standard 1394 compliant isochronous packet carrying digital video information is received. The application data (e.g., DV information) is separated from other communication packet protocol data (e.g., IEEE standard 1394 compliant header information). The received application data is analyzed to determine if it conforms to configuration constraints of predetermined application data format requirements. In one exemplary implementation, the initial information included in the application data section of the communication packet is analyzed to determine if it appropriately (e.g., sequentially) follows the information in previously received communication packet in accordance with predefined configuration definitions. If the information does not appropriately (e.g., sequentially) follow the information in previously received communication packet, a data patch is provided for lost or missing application data.

    • An apparatus and related method for transmitting an optical signal through a nonlinear medium such that nonlinearities caused by the medium are eliminated from the transmitted optical signal is described. The optical signal is presumed to have a duty cycle, wherein the optical signal is “on” during an active portion of the duty cycle and “off” during an inactive portion, the active portion being of equal or lesser duration than the inactive portion. The optical signal plus a delayed and weighted version of itself are transmitted through the nonlinear medium without mutual interference. The transmitted signals are then re-synchronized, weighted, and subtracted such that nonlinearities induced by the medium are canceled, but such that a signal proportional to a delayed version of the original optical signal survives.
