摘要： Orthopedic screws are provided that include a tip, a head, and a shaft extending between the tip and the head. The shaft comprises a shaft core and at least one thread. The thread is disposed helically along the shaft, extends radially from the shaft, and has a plurality of grooves oriented transversely with respect to the thread. The plurality of grooves define a series of thread segments and thread slots along the thread. The shaft core is solid from the tip to the head. Cannulated orthopedic screws also are provided that include a shaft core that is hollow from the tip to the head and that defines a lumen extending from a tip opening to a head opening. Methods of use of the orthopedic screws and the cannulated orthopedic screws also are provided.

The bolster is capable of elastic deformation between a first orientation with the wing wrapped into a generally cylindrical configuration aligned with the axis and a second orientation with the wing unfurled transverse to the axis. A constraining member retains the bolster in the first orientation and covers a major portion of the wrapped wing. The removal of the constraining member permits the bolster to deploy, such that it moves from the first orientation to the second orientation. The constraining member may be removed by the use of a ripcord to tear through the constraining member, deploying the bolster within a patient's stomach. Alternatively, the bolster may be deployed within the stomach by the constraining member being dissolved by the patient's gastrointestinal fluids.

摘要： Spinal interbody cages are provided that include a bulk interbody cage, a top face, a bottom face, pillars, and slots. The pillars are for contacting vertebral bodies. The slots are to be occupied by bone of the vertebral bodies and/or by bone of a bone graft. The spinal interbody cage has a Young's modulus of elasticity of at least 3 GPa, and has a ratio of the sum of (i) the volumes of the slots to (ii) the sum of the volumes of the pillars and the volumes of the slots of 0.40: 1 to 0.90: 1.

摘要： A surgical tool (10) for use in initial placement of a gastrostomy device in a patient includes an obturator (20), a cannula (14) and an outer flexible tubular member (16). A pointed end (38) of the obturator and an adjacent dilator (18) cooperate to incise a tract through the abdominal and stomach walls of the patient. The obturator is removed, leaving the cannula and outer tubular member in place. A deformable section (44) of the flexible tubular member is expanded by movement of the cannula. The outwardly deformed section is then pulled up against the inner wall of the stomach wherein the thickness of the stomach and abdominal walls can be measured by use of visible scale indicia (48) carried on the external surface of the flexible tubular member. Subsequent to the noted measurement, a guide wire or pull wire (108) is passed through a lumen provided by the cannula. The guide wire is used for placing a gastrostomy device of suitable size in the incised tract.

摘要： Hard-tissue stem implants are provided that comprise a bulk stem implant, a face, pillars, and slots. The pillars are for contacting a cancellous portion of a hard tissue, are distributed on the face, across an area of at least 80 mm 2 , and extend distally therefrom. The pillars are prearranged to match an underlying structure of the cancellous portion of the hard tissue. The slots are to be occupied by the cancellous portion of the hard tissue. Methods of making and using hard-tissue stem implants are also provided.
