In another embodiment, the golf club head has a weight system for adjusting the center of gravity. In one embodiment, the weight system has a tube, which is inserted into the golf club head and possesses a weight at one end, and moves the center of gravity within 6 mm in the back-and-forth direction and within 6 mm in the vertical direction. SOLUTION: An iron golf club head 10 has a hollow structure where a lightweight composite material core 20 is inserted into a golf club head cavity 22 and juxtaposed against a front face 16 by compressed gas to provide support to the front face 16. The material of the lightweight composite core 20 has lower density and higher flexibility than those of the front face. The front face 16 has a variable stiffness so as to create a variable coefficient of restitution (COR) over the face, thus normalizing a hitting area over a greater portion of the face. The lightweight composite material core 20 in cooperation with the front face 16 makes a COR of about 0.8 in the middle of the face, and a COR of about 0.9 in the outer section.
