    • A telecommunication network comprising a network orchestrator 120, a plurality of network nodes 150 and a network ledger 140 for electronically storing data, the method comprising the steps of: the network orchestrator generating an instruction for reconfiguring at least one of the plurality of nodes; in response to generating said instruction, requesting and retrieving first status information from the at least one of the plurality of nodes; recording the instruction and the first status information to the network ledger; communicating the instruction to the at least one of the plurality of nodes thereby to effect the instructed reconfiguration; in response to effecting the instructed reconfiguration, requesting and retrieving second status information from the at least one of the plurality of nodes; and recording said second status information in the network ledger. Network performance may also be monitored from the status data recorded in the ledger and a reconfiguration may be made to reverse the instruction if performance has reduced. If performance has improved from effecting the instruction in a reference or clone portion of the network (i.e. a simulated change), the instruction may be effected in a portion of the network that processes live network traffic.

    • A method and device are described of managing allocation of a User Equipment (UE) to a network slice of a telecommunications network, the network having a plurality of network slices, wherein the UE is allocated to a first network slice to process a network communication from the UE. The method comprises: monitoring a suitability of the first network slice to process the network communication 320; identifying a second network slice that is suitable for processing the network communication 330; and in response to identifying a lack of suitability of the first network slice to process the network communication, registering the UE with the second network slice prior to registering the UE with the first network slice 340. The first slice may be unsuitable to process the communication due to a capacity breach, downtime, or insufficient resources, or due to scaling, creation, removal or restarting of the slice. If the first slice is determined to be suitable, the UE may be registered with it, but it if it unsuitable the UE may be prevented from registering with it. The network may be wireless or fixed line.

    • One or more network nodes of a telecommunications network are configured to implement a plurality of network slices. Requirement data is identified that indicates a network requirement (for example bandwidth or latency thresholds) for one or more metrics for a User Equipment, UE, to access a service of a service provider. Network slice capability data (for example minimum bandwidth or average latency) is identified for a first and second network slice, the network slice capability data for the first and second network slices indicating the first and second network slice's capability for the one or more metrics respectively. The requirement data is compared to at least one of the network slice capability data for the first network slice and the network slice capability data for the second network slice. It is then determined that the UE should access the service using the first network slice based on the comparison and a connection of the UE to the first network slice is initiated. The capability data may indicate that the first network slice is of a higher priority.

    • Managing traffic amongst network slices of a telecommunications network. A user equipment UE is allocated to a first network slice 310. Network communications form the UE are processed, the suitability of the first network slice to process communications are monitored. A second network slice suitable for processing network communications is identified. In response to identifying a lack of suitability of the first network slice to process communications 330, communications are redirected to the second network slice whilst the UE remains allocated to the first network slice 360. Network communications may be redirected to the second network slice before being received by the first network slice. Suitability of the first network slice to process network communications may be based on processing resources, concurrent users being over a threshold or identification of an ongoing or future reconfiguration. The first network slice may be continuously monitored after redirection of communications to a second network slice, and redirection of communications may cease if the first network slice becomes suitable for processing network communications. Suitability of the second network slice may comprise measuring network performance of the second slice and assessing whether network performance passes a threshold.

    • A method 300 of operating a telecommunications network having a plurality of nodes. Historic reconfiguration instructions are stored, together with associated first and second status information from the nodes. The first status information being information received prior to reconfiguring the network according to the associated historic instruction and the second status information being information received after reconfiguring the network. When a new reconfiguration instruction is received 310 a similar historic reconfiguration instruction is identified from the stored instructions, and the first and second status information associated with the identified instruction are compared to determine if the instruction had a detrimental effect the network’s performance. A success confidence metric for the new reconfiguration instruction, representing a probability that the new reconfiguration instruction will not have a detrimental effect on the network’s performance, is calculated 320. The calculated metric is then compared to a threshold 330, and the new reconfiguration instruction is either implemented (if the metric is greater than the threshold) 350, or not (if the metric is less than the threshold) 360. The success confidence metric may take into account the extent of the detrimental effect that the similar historic instruction had.

    • A method of managing traffic flow through a multi-node network interlinking first (4) and second (5) mobile networks is disclosed. The method comprises communicating a connection request message from the second network to the first network over a first route via a set of nodes 8 of the multi-node network. This occurs when a subscriber user equipment (UE) 2 that has as a home network the first network and that is operating in the second network, attempts to establish a connection to a correspondent UE 3. In at least one of the nodes of the set, the method identifies a candidate alternative route between nodes of the multi-node network for at least part of a connection between the subscriber UE and the correspondent UE, and transmits an indication of the candidate alternative route to a controller. The controller selects, in accordance with predetermined criteria, one of the first route and the candidate alternative routes and causes a connection to be established between the subscriber UE and the correspondent UE at least partially over the selected route. The method may manage the paths used in an IPX interconnect system for delivering traffic from a roaming VoLTE device.
