    • A wireless authentication system for authenticating a user before allowing access to a protected resource is described herein. An authentication device receives an indication of an intent to access a protected resource. The authentication device sends a request for a key. The wireless user device and the authentication device may engage in a key exchange. The authentication device determines whether the one or more keys obtained via the key exchange are valid and may allow access to the protected resource if the one or more keys are valid. The authentication device may request further verification of the identity of the user, such as a keyholder verification. The authentication device may allow access to the protected resource if the key and the keyholder verification are valid.

    • A method of marketing and selling products or services through a marketing system is disclosed. The method may include: maintaining, by the marketing system, a database in a memory of a computer, the database including a plurality of data records, each data record associated with a participant of the marketing system and assigned a first attribute if the associated participant is also a member of a second marketing system; receiving, at an interface of the computer coupled with the memory, from a first participant, a request to register in the marketing system, the request including an indication that the first participant is also a member of the second marketing system; creating, by the computer, a first data record in the database based on the received request, the first data record being associated with the first participant and assigned the first attribute based on the indication; accounting, by the computer, for a sale of products or services directly from a marketing company associated with the marketing system to the first participant, and storing the accounting in the first data record; causing, by the computer, first rewards points to be credited to the first participant based on the accounted for sale to the first participant, the first rewards points redeemable for products, services, or compensation associated with the marketing system, and stored in the first data record; and causing, by the computer, second rewards point to be credited to the first participant based on the accounted sale to the first participant if the first data record is assigned the first attribute, the second rewards point redeemable for products, services, or compensation associated with the second marketing system and stored in a partner merchant file on the computer.

    • The present invention provides a highly reliable and scalable architecture for data centers. Work to be performed is divided into discrete work units. The work units are maintained in a pool of work units that may be processed by any number of different servers. A server may extract an eligible work unit and attempt to process it. If the processing of the work unit succeeds, the work unit is tagged as executed and becomes ineligible for other servers. If the server fails to execute the work unit for some reason, the work unit becomes eligible again and another server may extract and execute it. A server extracts and executes work units when they have available resources. This leads to the automatic load balancing of the data center.

    • Described is a communication system including wireless client devices. In the described system, the client devices may be wrist-worn watches such as are in common use today, except that the watches are specially configured to receive transmissions from broadcast towers. A client device is associated with one or more home service regions, and is configured to receive personal messages on a home channel when in the home service region. The client device employs a self-assignment method to identify and select a home channel without the need for interaction by a user. A tower discovery method is employed to identify broadcast towers and available channels within a service region. A failover method is employed to identify a change in the broadcast system, and take appropriate action such as, for example, changing to another broadcast tower, selecting another frequency, selecting a sleep mode, as well as others.

    • A system and method for implementing a conditional payload server are provided. A request for a payload corresponding to a subset of client attributes is obtained. Additionally, one or more payload(s) is obtained in which each payload defines criteria for delivering the payload. The criteria for delivering each payload are then embodied into an expression tree that is scored and optimized for traversal. The expression tree is converted into an evaluation tree data structure in which the conjunctive and disjunctive operators are the tree nodes and attribute evaluator value expressions are the leaf nodes. The expression tree is merged into a catalog data structure having a master attribute list, an evaluator list, a value list, a payload list, and a conjunction list. The catalog is then evaluated according to the subset of client attributes corresponding to the payload request and a payload is delivered.
