摘要： Systems and methods for measuring interest levels of audience in a broadcast program and providing extra information based on the interest level. The methods include receiving an AV signal of a broadcast program and supplementary content which contains broadcast program related information and a tag identifying the broadcast program. The supplementary content is combined with the AV signal to form a data-augmented signal which is subsequently modulated with a carrier signal to form a transmit signal for broadcasting to receivers. Each receiver includes a decoder for extracting the supplementary content and means for computing interest levels and providing extra information based on the interest levels.

The first set of query terms are used to query a knowledge repository, wherein the knowledge repository is a collection of electronic documents. 摘要： A method and apparatus for joint profiling for identifying one or more common interests of members of a group and recommending items accordingly. The method comprises receiving a user profile for each member, the user profile comprising a set of one or more topics of interest to, that member; automatically mapping at least one topic from each of the profiles to a concept; deriving a group profile, in dependence upon the concepts and the topics; and generating a list of recommended items for the group based on the group profile. Also presented is a method and apparatus for joint profiling wherein a joint weight for each topic is calculated by: for each user, calculating the reciprocal of a weight associated with the topic for that user; calculating the sum of the resulting reciprocals; and calculating the joint weight as the reciprocal of the resulting sum.

One or more embodiments combine both variable blocking and defocusing and may use a lens design that complements the blocking and defocusing. Among the various advantages offered by one or more embodiments disclosed herein is a laser scanner apparatus (10) that exhibits a flatter response curve to backscattered light (18) over a defined range of distances. That is, among other advantages of the configurations and operating methods disclosed herein, a laser scanner apparatus (10) experiences less variation in the optical power delivered to its photodetector (54) arrangement, in relation to detecting an object at different distances within a defined range.
