    • Crude low-pressure polyolefines e.g. polyethylene or polypropylene, are purified by first treating with an aqueous solution of a readily soluble salt of a strong base and a strong acid at 5 to 30 DEG C., separating the polyolefine, washing it with an aqueous salt solution, then treating the polyolefine with a 3 to 10% aqueous caustic alkali solution e.g. caustic soda solution and finally washing the polyolefine with water. A small amount of a surface-active substance may be added to one or more of the treating liquids. The aqueous salt solution may be treated e.g. heated to between 60 and 100 DEG C., to recover catalyst residues. The low pressure polyolefines are those obtained by polymerizing 1-olefines in the presence of a titanium compound and an organo-metallic compound such as an alkyl aluminium halide. The salt of the strong base and strong acid may be sodium, potassium, ammonium, magnesium, calcium, or barium chloride, or sodium, ammonium, or magnesium sulphate. The surface active substance may be an ethoxylated fatty alcohol or alkyl phenol, or an alkylaryl sulphonate.
