    • A device for applying tape from a roll of tape (e.g., masking tape) along a surface to be protected with an edge of the tape extending along a juncture between the surface to be protected and a surface to be treated disposed at about a right angle with respect to the surface to be protected. The device includes a two portion housing around and journaling the tape roll, each portion having a tape contacting part of its inner surface in a first plane, and having in a second plane a guide part of its outer surface adapted to be slid along the surface to be treated. The first and second planes on each of the housing portions can be parallel or at a small angle with respect to each other so that they intersect along an application side of the housing. A pressure application structure is mounted on the housing with an outer edge each end of the pressure application structure at the intersection (if they intersect) of the first and second planes for a different adjacent one of the housing portions. The pressure application structure is mounted on the housing for limited pivotal movement in a plane at about a right angle with respect to a plane along the guide surface. The roll of tape can be mounted in the housing for free rotation and axial movement. Tape from the roll extends around the periphery of the pressure application structure so that the dispenser can be manually positioned with either housing portion against the surface to be treated and moved to apply the tape, whereupon pressures applied to the tape being dispensed by the pressure application structure in the device will cause the side surface of the roll of tape to move toward or into contact with the tape contact part of the inner surface of the housing portion being slid along the surface to be treated so that the tape is accurately applied.

    • A tape application apparatus is adapted for both left-handed and right-handed use when applying tape from a roll to a first surface. An edge of the first surface is common to an edge of an adjacent second surface. The tape application apparatus includes a housing and a tape hub attached to the housing that is capable of slidably receiving the roll. The housing has first and second exterior surfaces and first and second interior surfaces and is capable of receiving the roll. When the tape application apparatus is guided in a first direction, the roll is moveable to a first dispensing position against the first interior side surface, and when the tape application apparatus is guided in a second direction opposite the first direction, the roll is moveable to a second dispensing position against the second interior side surface.

    • A dispenser for dispensing a length of sheet material from a roll of the sheet material. The dispenser includes a first rotatable hub mounted on a dispenser frame that receives the roll of sheet material around its periphery. A first end of an elongate cut-off blade is attached to the frame so that a user of the dispenser can manually tension sheet material being pulled from the roll around a cutting edge on the blade to sequentially transversely sever the sheet material. A locating hub rotatably mounted on one end of a spacing arm is adapted to be received in the roll of sheet material from its end opposite the first hub. An end of the spacing arm opposite the locating hub is mounted on the cut-off blade to space the cutting edge a predetermined distance from the axis of the roll of sheet material at the second end of the roll of sheet material as the sheet material is sequentially transversely cut along the cutting edge on the blade.

    • A cut-off blade assembly including a thin metal blade having an attachment portion by which the cut-off blade assembly can be attached to a dispenser, and a plurality of projecting similarly shaped triangular primary teeth. The triangular primary teeth each have two sides terminating in points and have bases adjacent the attachment portion that are aligned in a first direction along the blade so that their points project generally at right angles to that first direction. Edge surfaces on the sides and at the points of the primary teeth intersect a major surface of the primary teeth at an included angle of no greater than about 90 degrees to define a cutting edge at that intersection. The cut-off blade assembly further includes projections along one major surface of the primary teeth. Those projections have distal ends positioned adjacent the points of the primary teeth, have sufficient thickness at the points in a direction normal to the major surfaces of the primary teeth to restrict inadvertent contact between a person and the cutting edge of the cutting blade, and are shaped and positioned to extend only along the primary teeth to afford easy cutting of sheet material pressed against the cutting edge of the primary teeth and free movement of the end of the sheet material being cut over the primary teeth. The primary teeth may intersect each other, or may be spaced apart and the blade may include recessed secondary teeth defining portions of the cutting edge therebetween.
