    • A preassembled modular drop-in transition having internal components in conformity with assembly and function specifications prior to and after insertion into an industrial gas turbine access port. The transition assembly maintains conformity with those specifications after insertion into the combustor case if it does not inadvertently impact other turbine components during its installation. Inadvertent impact is avoided by having a combustor service zone proximal the combustor case, enabling slidable insertion of each transition and/or combustor assembly into its corresponding access port along its corresponding insertion path without contacting other turbine system components. A multi-axis motion transition handling tool (THT) in the combustor service zone, preferably under automatic control, is coupled to a transition and facilitates precise alignment along the insertion path. Automatic control facilitates consistent repetitive transition installation and removal by executing a sequence of stored pre-determined manipulation steps.

    • An event broker that receives various types of events in a particular device, and decodes the events to a common meaning form as a generic event that is accessible by various software applications in the device. The event broker includes a plurality of event receivers that receive the events on various ports of the device. The events are then transferred to an event driver loader that accesses a particular event driver depending on how the particular event is formatted. The event driver decodes the event and stores the generic event in an event storage system and/or passes it on to a particular software module that may need to use the event at that particular time.

    • An improved heat exchanger utilizing a primary heated fluid to vaporize a secondary fluid flowing axially therethrough including a preheater assembly located within a cold leg side of the heat exchanger to allow axial flow of the secondary fluid through a preheater assembly to heat the secondary fluid to it boiling point temperature. The heat exchanger generally comprises a vertical shell portion with a tubesheet disposed adjacent a lower end thereof and a tube bundle which includes a plurality of U-shaped tubes through which the primary fluid flows. The preheater assembly is located in the vicinity of the tubesheet wherein the secondary fluid enters the preheater through a fluid inlet nozzle into a lower feedwater inlet box which is disposed around the inlet nozzle for dispersing the secondary fluid from the nozzle over a greater area. Specifically, the feedwater inlet box may include a double-perforated plate assembly whose flow resistance produces a low velocity uniform introduction of feedwater into the tube bundle. This water flows upward providing axial-counter flow and enhances heat transfer. This cold water is introduced near the coldest end of the tubes where it is most effective, while the design prevents thermal shock of the tubesheet with a layer of warm recirculating water providing a cushion between the tubesheet and the cold feedwater.
