    • A fibrous web which includes a first zone composed of fibers which have been treated with a surfactant and a second zone composed of fibers which have been exposed to a corona field. At least one of the first zone and the second zone constitutes less than all of the fibrous web. In addition, the fibers constituting the second zone also constitute a portion of the fibers of the first zone. The first zone and the second zone may involve essentially the same portion of the fibrous web, provided that both zones do not encompass the entire fibrous web. Both the first zone and the second zone may constitute less than all of the fibrous web. In certain embodiments, the fibrous web will be composed of fibers which are at least partially oriented in one direction. Either the first zone or the second zone may encompass all of the fibrous web. That is, the entire fibrous web may treated with a surfactant or exposed to a corona field. Desirably, the entire fibrous web will be treated with a surfactant. Alternatively, the fibers of the second zone may be the same fibers of which a portion of the first zone is composed. The fibrous web may be employed as a component of such absorbent product as diapers; incontinent care products; and feminine care products, such as sanitary napkins and tampons.

    • A high surface area oxidative catalyst smoke suppressive composition, smoke suppressive articles, and method of making such compositions and articles are disclosed. The smoke suppressive composition is a solid solution comprising a mixture of iron (Fe) and magnesium (Mg) that promotes efficient combustion, articles treated with such compositions, and methods for making such smoke suppressive compositions and articles. The smoke suppressive composition is made by co-precipitating Fe and Mg from an aqueous solution in the presence of a base. The iron-magnesium composition demonstrates high surface area and efficient combustion for embodiments having iron in an amount from approximately 3 mol % to approximately 30 mol % and magnesium in an amount from approximately 97 mol % to approximately 70 mol %. The compositions provide superior smoke suppression for items such as cigarettes and smoke suppressive articles. The smoke suppressive compositions are particularly useful for reducing cigarette sidestream smoke in cigarettes.

    • A warming product that contains an exothermic composition configured to generate heat in the presence of oxygen and moisture is provided. The exothermic composition is applied to a thermal composite containing two or more fibrous layers, which are structured to provide enhanced distribution of the exothermic composition through the thermal composite structure. For example, a first fibrous layer may rapidly acquire the exothermic composition and distribute it primarily in the −z direction (direction of thickness) to a second fibrous layer, which may then distribute the exothermic composition primarily in the −x and −y directions. Typically, at least a portion of the exothermic composition is able to flow through the second fibrous layer and contact additional layers. For example, the exothermic composition may contain a moisture-holding layer configured to supply moisture to the exothermic composition. This places the exothermic composition into close contact with the moisture-holding layer, which may provide enhanced heating efficiency. Further, the exothermic composition may also adhere the moisture-holding layer to the composite without the need for additional bonding mechanisms.
