    • An IC card connecting mechanism for connecting an IC card (30) having a terminal array(32), and a connector (46) for connecting the IC card (30) to an external equipment. The IC card connecting mechanism comprises the frame (35) of the IC card (30), having a peripheral rim (38) provided with recesses (39) respectively at the opposite ends of the front portion thereof, the terminal protecting member (41) of the IC card (30), having a terminal protecting part (41a) for protectively covering the terminal array (32), and legs (41b) extending from the opposite longitudinal sides of the terminal protecting part (41a) and held at the respective free ends thereof on the frame (35) of the IC card (30), the body (55) of the connector (46) having guide legs (53) for guiding the IC card (30) in inserting the IC card (30) in the connector (46), and lifting means (50) provided in the body (55) of the connector (46) so as to enter the recesses (39) of the frame (35) to lift up the terminal protecting part (41a) of the terminal protecting member (41) when the IC card (30) is inserted in the connector (46). Thus, the terminal protecting part (41a) of the terminal protecting member (41) is lifted up automatically to expose the terminal array (32) for electrical connection with the conductors (51, 52) of the connector (46) when the IC card (30) is inserted in the connector (46).

    • A driving apparatus for controlling the drive of a direct current (DC) brushless motor (100) including a stator having a plurality of armature coils which are provided on a generally circular stator yoke, and a rotatable rotor in which a disk-like magnet having N and S poles arranged alternately in a circumferential direction is provided on a generally circular rotor yoke to face the armature coils, includes a speed sensor (102a, 102b) for producing outputs responsive to a rotation speed of the rotor, a counter (116) for counting the pulses which are produced by the speed sensors, a control circuit (110, 104) responsive to the speed sensors and counter for controlling the current, which is applied to the armature coils, to apply currents to the armature coils in a predetermined sequence to thereby rotate the rotor, and a mechanism for cancelling a load acting on the rotor. The control circuit, at a start-up of the motor, switches the current applied to the armature coils to excite the armature coils in several different phases to thereby locate the rotor at a starting angular position, in the event when the rotor is located at the starting angular position, cancels a load acting on the rotor, at least before a last one of the phases is excited, subsequently controls rotation drive by counting output pulses of the speed sensor to determine an angular position of the rotor, and controls a rotation direction of the rotor on the basis of output pulses of the speed sensor and on a resuling count of the pulses. Also provided is a driving method for a DC brushless motor for effecting such a control.

    • In a dot print head of an impact type moved in a direction of spacing movement relative to a printing medium, and having a plurality of printing elements each having a printing wire arranged substantially in an elongated circle centered at a line parallel with the direction in which the printing elements are driven, and which is provided with a wire guide having guide elements for the respective printing wires for guiding tips of the printing wires to predetermined positions on said printing medium, the guide elements are divided into at least four rows each extending in the direction orthogonal to said direction of the spacing movement and orthogonal to the direction in which the printing wires extend, and distances between said rows are multiples of 1/240 inches. Each of the printing elements is driven for printing either at a reference timing which occurs once a standard printing cycle having a standard period, at a timing 1/4 of the standard period past said reference timing, at a timing half the standard period past said reference timing, or at a timing 3/4 of the standard period past said reference timing.
