    • Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. One method may include communicating with an access point (AP) during awake intervals in which the wireless device is in an awake mode, determining a congestion level associated with a radio frequency (RF) spectrum band, and determining, for an awake interval, an inactivity timeout (ITO) interval for the wireless device to remain in the awake mode based on an identified RF spectrum band and the determined congestion level used by the wireless device to communicate with the AP. A second method may include polling an AP during a delivery traffic indication message (DTIM) period, and modifying timing for the station to poll the AP based on identifying that a trigger condition has been satisfied based on a determination that at least one null data message has been received from the AP, or a predetermined threshold number of polls have timed out.

    • Systems and methodologies are described that enable power save mechanisms to be utilized with active direct transfers. Mobile stations (104, 106) in a wireless communication network (100) can establish direct links (114) between each other to obviate a need to transfer data via an access point (102). While direct links (114) are active, the mobile stations (104, 106) coordinate or otherwise notify each other about power management modes to effectuate power save delivery of data via direct links (114). In accordance with a scheduled mechanism, mobile stations (104, 106) coupled via a direct link (114) enter an active mode at a previously negotiated scheduled time after which time data transfer can occur. According to an unscheduled mechanism, one mobile station (104, 106) can remain awake while other enters a power save mode. The sleeping station can awaken and transmit a trigger frame to notify its peer that it is available for data transfers.

    • Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate enhanced aggregation of management frames in a wireless communication system. Various aspects described herein provide for the encapsulation of management frames into respective data frames, thereby allowing management frames to be aggregated with data frames. Upon aggregation of an encapsulated management frame with data frames, the aggregated frames can be transmitted to one or more stations using a block acknowledgement scheme. Further, information contained in a management frame can be encrypted prior to transmission. Upon transmission of an aggregated frame, indications can be provided to a receiving station to indicate the presence of an encapsulated management frame and/or encrypted management information within the aggregated frame. Based on these indications, the receiving station can extract and/or decrypt the management information from the aggregated frame.
