A second method comprises: receiving a first registration request message from the UE over a first access type (e.g. 3GPP access), including an identification of one or more first requested network slices; receiving a second registration request message from the UE over a second access type (e.g. non-3GPP access), including an identification of one or more second requested network slices; determining to perform the NSSAA procedure for each network slice that is subject to NSSAA identified in the first and second registration request messages; and transmitting, to the UE, a registration accept message including an identification of network slices for which the NSSAA procedure is pending (e.g. will be performed or is ongoing).

Alternatively, the NAS message may be a Service Request message, the indication may be a predetermined value (denoting “emergency service” or “emergency service fallback”) in a predetermined field (Service type field) of the message, and transmitting the Service Request message may be prioritised over transmitting a message (e.g. CPSR message) for sending data (not related to an emergency service). Also disclosed is a method for requesting an emergency service in a UE using CP CIoT optimization, comprising: setting an RRC establishment cause to a value denoting “emergency”. The UE is in 5GMM-IDLE mode. A determination is made whether the network supports emergency services (based on a 5GS network feature support IE in a Registration Accept message).

    • Disclosed is a method, for a UE, wherein the UE is operating in a first mode (e.g. 5GS or EPS), and wherein a data session (e.g. PDU session or PDN connection) is established for the UE. The method comprises: switching from the first mode to a second mode (e.g. EPS or 5GS), including transferring the data session from the first mode to the second mode; and applying a policy to determine whether or not to apply header compression to the data session in the second mode. Applying the policy may comprise, if header compression is applied to the data session in the first mode, and header compression is not supported in the second mode, stopping applying header compression for the data session in the second mode. Applying the policy may comprise, if header compression is applied to the data session in the first mode, continuing to apply header compression for the data session in the second mode, and the method may further comprise negotiating one or more parameters for header compression in the second mode. The invention may apply to Ethernet and IP headers as part of CIoT optimization in EPS and 5GS

    • User equipment (UE) determines whether to provide an indication of a maximum data rate for a data session and if it is determined to provide the indication, which may be based on the UE supporting transfer of data over the user plane, the UE transmits to a network entity a data session establishment request including the indication. If it is determined not to provide the indication, which may be based on the UE not supporting transfer of data over the user plane, the UE transmits to the network entity a data session establishment request not including the indication and the network entity may determine that the UE does not support user plane integrity protection. Also disclosed, in response to mobility of UE from a first RAT to a second RAT, all QoS rules associated with an established data session may be deleted except for a default QoS. Alternatively, in response to a data session modification command or a data session establishment accept message, UE may determine whether a condition based on QoS parameters is satisfied.

    • A method comprises, while there is a pending network slice selection assistance information (NSSAI), receiving, from a UE, a request indicating at least one first single NSSAI (S-NSSAI) over a first access technology. If the pending NSSAI includes an indication of one or more S-NSSAIs which were indicated in a previous request receives from the UE the method comprises determining whether the request is for using at least one new/additional network slice. Also provided is a method as above described and comprising the steps of removing, from the pending NSSAI, the indication of the one or more S-NSSAIs, wherein the at least one first S-NSSAIs are different to any S-NSSAIs indicated in the pending NSSAI. Also provided is a method comprising, determining whether a S-NSSAI is available or allowed for a UE based on a registration area (RA) of the UE and if not, including the S-NSSAI in a rejected NSSAI without performing network slice-specific authentication and authorization (NSSAA) for the S-NSSAI. The method alternately comprises performing NSSAA for the S-NSSAI and after performing NSSAA, determining whether the S-NSSAI is available or allowed for the UE based on the RA of the UE and, if not, including the S-NSSAI in the rejected NSSAI.
