    • A computer implemented method of decoding a signal 30 which comprises receiving a signal 31 (which may be an electromagnetic signal), sampling the received signal to generate an input waveform having magnitude and phase components 32, applying a transform operation to the input waveform to generate a first decoded signal, and then outputting the first decoded signal 35. The transform operation comprises pre-processing the input waveform to generate a mirrored inverted waveform 33 and then applying a continuous wavelet transform to the mirrored inverted waveform 34 to generate the first decoded signal. This allows inversion of the frequency and temporal resolution of the continuous wavelet transform (CWT), thereby enabling improved temporal and frequency decoding of a signal. Particularly suitable for signal filters and filtering units. Preferably, the input waveform is pre-processed by adding a phase shift of pi radians to the phase component of the input and multiplying the phase component by -1. Preferably a filtered signal is generated by applying an inverse CWT to a modified decoded signal.
