摘要： A slide fastener stringer comprises material(20) folded at one edge and secured away from the fold edge, then divided into loop straps(38) to hold a continuous spiral filament coupling element(14, 24). Strap width is much greater than slot width and the slots(22) are oblique to the fold line so that each pair of straps is separated by solt halves oppositely inclined to the edge and occupied by fastener member legs which are similarly inclined to the edge. The straps are bonded to the member heels(36) and the overlapping parts of the edge fold are secured by a threadless bond. The member heels extend at an oblique angle to the plane of the stringer and the straps extend perpendicularly to the heels.

摘要： An article opening is closable by a slide fastener (16) having coupling element trans (22, 24) along the edges of a pair of tapes (18, 20) which have their outer edges secured to the sides of the opening (14). There are perforations (40) in the region of the tapes between article edge & coupling elements to form a vent when the opening is closed. The dia. of perforations is pref. 0.254 - 2.032 mm & the tapes are of polymeric film & folded longitudinally with the trains secured to the folded edges & the perforations extending through both film layers. Each perforation is surrounded by a reinforcing bead or deformed part of the tape. There may be a flap overlaying the opening to allow expulsion of air.

A method of making gapped and cleaned seam-type slide fastener chain of the above described type including supporting the slide fastener chain with the filamentary stringers exposed, positioned a plurality of vibrating heads over the exposed stringers in frictional engagement therewith, reciprocating the vibrating heads in a transverse direction relative to the slide fastener chain, and moving the slide fastener chain such that the filamentary stringers sequentially pass under each of the vibrating heads. Apparatus for making gapped and cleaned seamtype slide fastener chain of the above described type includes a guide for supporting the slide fastener chain, a plurality of vibrating heads disposed over the chain in frictional engagement with the filamentary stringers, drive rollers cooperating with the guide for moving the slide fastener chain such that stringers sequentially pass under each of the vibrating heads, and a vibrator for reciprocating the vibrating heads relative to the slide fastener chain to remove severed portions of the filamentary stringers.
