摘要： A slide fastener and method and apparatus for making the same are disclosed wherein coils of filamentary material are secured to adjacent edges of a pair of carrier tapes. Each coil of filamentary material is formed from a filament having a specially shaped cross section which is arranged in a mirror image relationship with respect to its adjacent filamentary coil. During formation of the filamentary coils, they are simultaneously wound on a mandrel having differently shaped surfaces which aid in the final shaping of each coil.

摘要： A slide fastener having a separating end stop formed of male and female components secured to a pair of tapes carrying interengaging elements along the inner edges thereof and upper and lower opposed sliders movable to control engagement of the interengaging elements, the male and female components having outer surfaces contoured to contact side walls of the lower slider as the lower slider is moved along the components to pivot the components toward each other and stress the tapes. The stress on the tapes causes the outer surfaces of the components to bear against the side walls of the lower slider and move the lower slider along the components to a position covering the junctions of the components and the interengaging elements.

Apparatus for forming the above described slide fastener including a support block having parallel channels for receiving separate slide fastener tapes, a forming anvil having a pair of spaced legs movable in the channels to capture the terminal fastener elements in cavities therein, a source for supplying ultrasonic energy to the forming anvil to reduce the size of the terminal fastener elements, a forming block supporting the separated slide fastener tapes adjacent cavities defined therein by another forming anvil, a forming member engaging the forming block to move the forming block relative to the other forming anvil and shear blanks of fusible material in the cavities, and a source for supplying ultrasonic energy to the forming member to fuse the blanks onto the slide fastener tapes to form separate stop members.
