    • A novel method and apparatus for protection of streamed media content is disclosed. In one aspect, the apparatus includes control means for governance of content streams or content objects, decryption means for decrypting content streams or content objects under control of the control means, and feedback means for tracking actual use of content streams or content objects. The control means may operate in accordance with rules received as part of the streamed content, or through a side-band channel. The rules may specify allowed uses of the content, including whether or not the content can be copied or transferred, and whether and under what circumstances received content may be “checked-out” of one device and used in a second device. The rules may also include or specify budgets, and a requirement that audit information be collected and/or transmitted to an external server. In a different aspect, the apparatus may include a media player designed to call plugins to assist in rendering content. A “trust plugin” is disclosed, along with a method of using the trust plugin so that a media player designed for use with unprotected content may render protected content without the necessity of requiring any changes to the media player. In one aspect, the streamed content may be in a number of different formats, including MPEG-4, MP3, and the RMFF format.

    • The present invention is for an algorithmic method for compressing data. The data is compressed one cycle at a time and stores a data block each cycle. The method includes the steps of forming a storage array of binary bits. The array has a first plurality of columns, a second plurality of rows, a third plurality of right diagonals and a fourth plurality of left diagonals. In the preferred embodiment the array has 30 rows, 30 columns, 59 left diagonals and 59 right diagonals. The array also has a data entry site. The array is also segmented into a plurality of morsels each comprising a collection of a binary bits. A new data block is entered into the data entry site. A fifth plurality of sums is formed representing the sum of binary 1's in each column, each row, each right diagonal and each left diagonal. Each sum is right diagonal and each left diagonal. Each sum is stored into a morsel thereby forming a summation array. Each summation array contains sufficient information to decompress the parent array and a compressed bit of information.

    • A method and apparatus for testing materials for use in a laser resonator includes selecting a test fixture apparatus having a housing with an internal chamber volume selected to approximate the internal volume of a predetermined laser resonator and having a pair of sealed windows therein which are removably attached to the housing and having optical coatings selected to match the coating on the optics of a laser. The housing has a removable cover and a gas purging opening. A laser of a predetermined wavelength and power is mounted adjacent the test fixture and is aligned for directing the laser beam through both of the windows of the test fixture. A material is placed in the test fixture and a laser beam directed through the coated windows for a predetermined period of time and thereafter the coated windows are examined for damage or contamination. The test fixtures are also cleaned and certified prior to testing so that a preselected test fixture can determine damage for selective materials used therein.
