摘要： A refuse collection system includes a plurality of waste receptacles arrayed adjacent to, or in the midst of, an eating area. Some of the waste receptacles may include compactor elements, and others may not. The receptacles have electronic control units and sensors for detecting the presence of patrons adjacent to the refuse receiving inlet door, or chute, and to sense the quantity of refuse accumulated in the receptacle. The patron sensor employs a wide angled feature for better detection of patrons who approach the unit from and oblique angle. The units have signal conveying devices, such as loudspeakers, by which aural messages can be communicated to patrons or servicing personnel. The electronic control units are able to communicate to a remote monitoring location, whether a fixed station or a portable station carried by a staff member.

An L-shaped support (99) is provided in the compaction chamber for supporting a container (115) into which trash is to be compacted. 摘要： A waste compaction system which includes a body defining a waste-receiving receptacle having a perimeter defining an open top end. A bottom wall of the receptacle is vertically movable by a driving system to produce an upwardly directed compaction force within the receptacle. An iris-type closure mechanism extends over the open top end and is displaceable between a first, open position where the closure mechanism surrounds the open top end and a second, closed position where the opening is at least partially closed by the closure mechanism. In the second position of the closure mechanism, the driving system displaces the bottom wall upwards thereby compacting the waste contained within the receptacle against the closure mechanism.

摘要： A refuse compactor of the type having a receptacle drawer removably contained within a cabinet wherein refuse is compacted by a ram to a fraction of its normal volume. The ram includes a refuse-compressing platen actuated through a toggle linkage to which force is applied by a single screw driven by an electric motor coupled to the screw through a reduction drive. The screw, motor and drive train are carried as a unit by the toggle linkage and move bodily therewith. Improvements are provided in the cabinet, receptacle drawer, compacting mechanism and mounting framework for the same which embody many structural and operational simplification features greatly reducing the size, weight and cost of the compactor. These features include mounting of the motor in the space between the screw and platen, a simplified toggle linkage mounting frame removably connected by brackets directly to the cabinet side walls, a one piece hinged door for the receptacle with integral alignment tabs, a contoured drawer rear wall cooperating with the platen to interlock the drawer in compacting position, a single sheet cabinet bottom wall and a tri-roller drawer supporting arrangement. Numerous other cost reduction and simplification features are also disclosed, including improvements in the platen assembly and gear box assembly.
