    • A paperboard shaped into a profile substantially the same as that of a carton blank for folding into a carbon is formed with a plurality of first slits on an edge of the paperboard at a predetermined angle relative to the edge and with a plurality of second slits on the same edge at a predetermined angle relative to the first slits in such a manner that saw-teeth are integrally formed thereon. The saw-teeth are immersed in a bath of a quick drying adhesive including .alpha.-cyanoacrylate to be impregnated with the adhesive and then dried, thereby forming teeth constituting a cutter on the carton blank. The carton obtained by folding the carton blank can be used as a packaging container for accommodating a roll of wrapping web. An apparatus for carrying out the method comprises a first group of cutting blades for forming the first slits, a second group of cutting blades for forming the second slits so as to integrally form saw-teeth on the edge portion, a bath of adhesive for impregnating the teeth with the adhesive, a dryer for drying the teeth, and a transfer device for transferring the paperboard along a predetermined path via the first and second groups of cutting blades, the bath and the dryer.

    • A method and apparatus particularly suited for cutting continuously moving thermoplastic film such as linear low density polyethylene and includes a stationary anvil, preferably a roller of tool steel and a tungsten carbide die mounted for rotation along a circular arc intersecting the anvil. In an embodiment for punching holes in the film, the apparatus includes a saddle shaped hollow tungsten carbide die projecting slightly above the cylindrical surface of a roll passing under a spring biased tool steel roller for cutting a semicircular hole in a continuously moving continuous plastic film web for the manufacturer draw tape bags. A vacuum is supplied to the center of the die for removing the segment of plastic film cut out by the apparatus. In an alternate embodiment, the rotary cutting apparatus includes a tungsten carbide plate member having a straight cutting edge is rotated along a circular arc at the end of support mounted to a shaft to intersect a spring biased roller supported along the arc to cut a perforation in a continuous plastic film passed between the straight cutting edge and roller. The alternate embodiment is suited for employing a plurality of the rotary cutting devices at spaced stations for cutting perforations across a moving film web.

    • A unique resealable container is described together with a method for converting a standard container of the type commonly used for packaging milk or other liquids into said container. An apparatus for carrying out this method is also described. The resealable container consists of a rectangular box having four flaps and a closing band for sealing the box. The closing band holds the flaps in their closed position. The container may be produced by making six cuts in a standard container of the type normally used to package milk or the like. The cuts are made with the apparatus of the present invention using an ordinary kitchen knife. The apparatus of the present invention supports the container during the cutting process and guides the knife to assure that the cuts are made in the correct locations.

    • The accompanying description and drawings disclose a method of forming a paperboard blank for a gable top type liquid carrying paperboard carton having straw opening means formed in a side panel of the gable top closure structure. The straw opening means includes a tear strip formed by cuts at least halfway through the carton wall beginning at the score line formed at the edge of the side panel adjacent the usual underlying side seam flap. In an alternate embodiment wherein the side seam flap is formed on the reverse end of the carton blank, a tab is formed from material available from the adjacent blank during the scoring and cutting process, and serves as an extension of the tear strip beyond the edge of the gable top side panel.

    • An arrangement for the processing of a moving material web, in particular for the creasing or punching of an extruded material web made of plastics. In the manufacture of such material webs a number of operational steps take place directly in conjunction with the manufacture of the web itself, and the fact that for reasons of quality as well as of manufacturing technique the extrusion process cannot be interrupted makes it necessary to attend to any changes in the crease pattern etc. during operation. The arrangement in accordance with the invention makes this possible, in that the material web can be brought into contact optionally with different pairs of processing rollers with the help of a pair of counter-rollers supported in a swivelling cradle, any pair of unused rollers being freely exchangeable against a pair of rollers with a different creasing pattern. The arrangement permits the processing of both sides of the web and the rapid exchange of different processing patterns during continuing production, which is particularly advantageous in the processing of material webs for the manufacture of packing containers.
