    • Chalk line dispenser including an upright dispensing container having a string containing compartment including a non-rewindable supply of string, a chalk filled compartment above the string containing compartment, and a dispensing cap above the chalk filled compartment and having a dispensing aperture for passage of chalked string therethrough.     • A line marking device (10) includes an elongated body (15) which mounts a marking filament (20) that is loaded with marking powder (55). When the filament (20) is snapped against a surface, a portion of the powder (55) is deposited on that surface along a well defined line. The body (15) also mounts a protractor (30) and spirit levels (22, 23) that are used to locate or set the device (10) in a predetermined position prior to snapping the marking filament (20) against the surface to be marked. The marking filament (20) extends through a shuttle chamber (53) that contains a supply of marking powder (55). That shuttle (50) is moved back and forth on the body (15) to recharge the marking filament (20) with the marking powder (55). In a second embodiment of this invention the marking filament (20) is pressed rather than snapped against the surface to be marked.
