摘要： A method and apparatus for sealing a plastics material to metal (3) comprises the steps of locating the sheet of metal (3) between an upper die (11) and a lower die (12) with the aperture there between, clamping the sheet of metal (3) between the upper and lower dies (11, 12) so that a cavity (14) in the upper die (11) spans the aperture, a cavity (15) in the lower die (12) spans the aperture and the aperture in the sheet of metal connects said cavities (14, 15) to act as a mould shape, introducing a plastics material into the mould shape to mould a closure keyed in the aperture, heating at least a peripheral margin of the wall (3) around the aperture to seal the plastics material to the peripheral margin, and thereafter opening the dies (11, 12) to permit removal of the closed wall (3) from the dies (11, 12).
The preferred apparatus for carrying out the method has an induction coil (17) to heat the peripheral edge of the aperture. Passages for a fluid coolant may be provided in one of the dies.

摘要： An easy opening top closure member for a container having a top member with an aperture of a predetermined configuration. A closure member for the aperture has an exterior portion and an interior portion. The exterior portion is in the form of a retaining ridge that extends upwardly from the interior portion and it functions to provide a surface (28) against which the tip of a finger can be pushed to uncover and also cover the aperture. The interior portion is in the form of a disc (24) whose lateral dimensions are greater than that of the aperture whereby the outer periphery of the disc functions as a pressure sealing lip against the underside of the top member. The lower portion of the retaining ridge is frangibly connected to the disc along a predetermined portion of the retaining ridge whereby either a downward force against a predetermined area of the disc or an upward pulling force against a predetermined portion of the ridge will cause the retaining ridge to separate from the disc along the predetermined frangible portion thereby allowing the closure member to be slid rearwardly and forwardly to respectively open and close the closure member. The lower portion (30) of the retaining ridge that is not frangibly connected to the disc may be of a thickness greater than the frangible portion which allows the thicker portion to function as a hinge connecting the retainer ridge to the disc.

摘要： A pull tab can end which exposes substantially no raw edge to create a hazard to the user. The end has an orifice whose periphery is defined by a raw edge turned upward. A membrane lies over the raw edge and covers the orifice. When the end is opened, there remains a portion of the membrane on the end which surrounds the exposed raw edge, thus preventing the user from cutting himself.

摘要： A closure (10) for a container (32), and a method for producing the same, wherein the closure comprises an end panel (24) and a plastic frame member (12) connected together and which can be placed over, or snapped onto, and then the frame member can be permanently attached and hermetically sealed to the flange of a metal, glass, plastic or composite container or can. The interface of the end panel (24) and frame member (12) is such as to hermetically seal the container and yet the end panel can be readily peeled from at least a portion of the frame member for gaining access to the interior of the container. A pull tab (26), or ring, is provided to assist in peeling the end panel to an open position. Depending on the manner of attaching or securing the end panel to the frame member, separation or peeling can result from an adhesive failing or from a cohesive failing of the material forming the frame member, or the end panel, or the adhesive.
