    • A closure (1) for a transportable container used in the transfer of materials to or from an enclosed process area is described. The container docks with a port in a wall of the process area forming a sealed connecting chamber which is sterilised by irradiation. Communication between the interiors of the container and the process area is then established. The closure (1) has a collar (2) and a lid (31), which portions are formed so that all the surfaces which form part of the connecting chamber in use are in the direct line of the sterilising radiation, which is normally ultra-violet or pulsed white light radiation. No relevant surface is shadowed from the radiation. The lid (31) may be formed integrally with the collar (2) with a thin web separating the two to define a fracture line. The lid (31) is provided with a grip (34) which can be grasped from within the process area. Application of a pulling force to the grip (34) causes the lid (31) to be pealed away from the collar (2) without the generation of particulates.

    • The multipurpose safety device to prevent needle stick injury and to prevent injuries while cutting an ampoule or opening a vial seal consists substantially of a flat strip with slots at one end, which is opposite the grip end. The slot near the end is open at the edge partially and the design of this slot substantially corresponds to the outer design of a needle cover that needs to be parked or accommodates the needle cover effectively. Another slot corresponds to the outer design of the needle hub to help disengage a tight fitting needle from the syringe. There is a third slot, which has a file at one end and or side to score a glass ampoule. The edges of the flat strip are raised to create a guard rail and the surface is optionally grooved. The other end, also called the grip end, is beveled to help open the metal seal of a rubber cap of a bottle or vial. This end may be optionally angulated or curved.

    • To remove a foil closure sealed around its edge to a food container, a tab on the foil is gripped between clip elements (20,21) on legs (13,14) being parts of a spindle (10). To do this the leg (14) is hinged towards the leg (13) and secured thereto by snap-action elements (18,19). The tab and closure can then be wound on the spindle (10) by a handle (11) that can serve as a spoon. In an alternative the spindle comprises two elongate coaxial parts in sliding engagement with legs in the form of overlapping projections that engage the tab between them at the centre of the spindle when the parts are pushed together.
