    • PURPOSE: A composition for raising seedlings containing a nutrient solution and an insecticidal component as active ingredients is provided to improve a fertilizing and insecticidal effect if applied to a seeding mat which controls the release rate of the nutrient solution, insecticide compound, and starch. CONSTITUTION: A composition for raising seedlings comprises a nutrient solution and an insecticide compound as active ingredients and additionally includes starch. The nutrient solution comprises 9.0-10.0g/l of calcium nitrate(Ca(NO3)2 H2O), 4.5-5.5g/l of potassium nitrate(KNO3), 0.5-1.5g/l of ammonium nitrate(NH4NO3), 4.5-5.5g/l of magnesium sulfate(MgSO4 H2O), 1.0-2.0g/l of monobasic ammonium phosphate (NH4H2PO4), 0.10-0.50g/l of chelate iron(Fe-EDTA), 0.10-0.50g/l of boric acid(H3BO3), 0.10-0.50g/l of manganese sulfate(MnSO4 H2O), 0.0010-0.0050g/l of sulfate zinc(ZnSO2 H2O), 0.0030-0.0080g/l of blue vitriol(CuSO4 H2O), and 0.0010-0.0050g/l of sodium molybdate(Na2MoO4 H2O). The insecticide is a compound including one or more chemicals selected from a group consisting of eugenol, cinnamyl acetate, cinnamic acid, cinnamaldehyde, cinnamyl alcohol, salicylaldehyde, terpineol, beta-caryophyllene, alpha-humulene, methyl salicylate, caryophyllene oxide, isoeugenol, methyl eugenol, chavicol, and anethole.

    • Preferred aspects of the present invention provide ammonium nitrate compositions comprising ammonium nitrate and at least a second compound, said second compound being present under conditions and in amounts effective to substantially reduce the detonation sensitivity of the composition and/or to otherwise improve a desired property of the composition. In certain embodiments, the second compound is selected from the group consisting of ammonium sulfate, ammonium phosphate, calcium nitrate, potassium nitrate, magnesium nitrate, ammonium molybdenate, ammonium hexaflouralsilicate, neodymium hydroxynitrate, and combinations of two or more of these. In preferred embodiments, at least a substantial portion of the ammonium nitrate in the composition is in the form of a double salt with one or more of said second compounds. In highly preferred embodiments, the present compositions consist essentially of one or more double salts of ammonium nitrate and a second compound as described herein.

    • A method of producing chlorine dioxide (ClO 2 ) is described which employs Urea as a reducing agent to reduce alkaline chlorate (NaClO 3 or KClO 3 ) in a mineral acid medium. The method of the invention can, for example, by means of a very high transfer rate, be used to reduce over 90% of the reactant, alkaline chlorate, to the product, chlorine dioxide. Furthermore, ClO 2 product purity is accomplished, for example, over 95%. The mother solution of the reaction can then be processed, for example, to produce other useful inorganic salts, including potassium sulfate, potassium nitrate, sodium nitrate, and the like, and/or compound fertilizer resulting in useful chemical products rather than toxic waste. Accordingly, the method of the invention provides for efficient, cost effective, and safe production of ClO 2 as well as inorganic salts and/or compound fertilizer.
