    • A hydraulic system for moving a carriage guided for movement along a linear path by a support frame, such as a backhoe or an excavator. The system comprises two hydraulic jacks 114, 116, each having a cylinder body and a piston rod. The cylinder bodies 114a and 116a of the two jacks are joined to one another, the end of the piston rod of one jack is connected to the support frame and the end of the piston rod of the other jack is connected to the carriage. In the invention, the two piston rods 114b, 116b project from the same side of the joined cylinder bodies and in each end position of the carriage 110, the piston rod 114b, 116b of a respective one of the jacks is fully extended while that of the other jack is fully retracted.

    • The invention concerns an excavation machine (10) comprising a guide (18) having a first position (20) located towards one end of the excavation machine and a second position (22) located towards another end of the excavation machine. The excavation machine further includes an arm (24) which movable along the guide between the first position and the second position The arm in turn includes an attachment formation (28) for facilitating attachment to a front end loader bucket (32) and to a backhoe bucket (30) respectively. In use, when the arm is connected to a backhoe bucket and is located in the first position of the guide, the excavation machine performs as a backhoe loader. In the case where the arm is connected to a front end loader bucket and is located in the second position of the guide the excavation machine performs as a front end loader.
