    • There is provided a method for manufacturing organic fertilizers by kneading and cutting a mixture of livestock excrements with cellulose-containing organic materials, followed by pulverizing the treated mixture while contacting it with air. The method is characterized in that said mixture is adjusted to a moisture content of 25 to 75 weight % before kneading and cutting, that said kneading and cutting is carried out until the temperature of the mixture rises up to 40 to 90°C, and that there is added a pH adjusting agent by which the pH value during the fermentation of microorganisms is in the range of 6 to 9 for activating and propagating thermophilic microoganisms and aerobic microorganisms as well as for decreasing psychrophilic microorganisms and anaerobic microorganisms. The method leads to composts of good quality and without a bad odor within a short time.

    • A method and an apparatus for making organic fertilizer by treating a mixture of livestock excrement such as dung of domestic fowls and cattles with organic substances containing cellulose as grass, straw, rice hulls, or wood chips for composting in a short term, which comprises adjusting the water content of the mixture to 25 to 75 % by weight, cutting and kneading under pressure, rapidly heating to 40 to 90 DEG C by the pressurizing and friction due to kneading, abruptly releasing the applied pressure, and pulverizing in the atmosphere to be brought into contact with oxygen thoroughly and uniformly. Thus the fermentation of the mixture is markedly promoted by bacteria activated by physical and thermal stimulation, whereby the mixture is composted in a short period of time and a fertilizer of uniform and high quality is obtained. The fermentation is accelerated by adjusting the pH of the mixture to 6 to 9 during the fermentation process by addition of a pH modifier thereto. The above organic fertilizer can be efficiently produced by the use of an organic fertilizer manufacturing apparatus composed of a first cylindrical treating tank having a material feed port at its front and a rear interconnected to the front of a second cylindrical treating tank having a discharge port at its rear through a gate, wherein the first is provided with pressure-feeding screw means and cutting/kneading means in the hollow part thereof while the second tank with a revolving crushing cutter.

    • An apparatus and process for transforming an input garbage mixture into separate fermented and non-fermented output products has a fermentation stage (20) to allow fermentation of the fermentable organic materials, an input stage, and successive grinder/separator stages (30, 40, 50) for grinding the garbage mixture into smaller particles and separating the ground fermented particles as a fermented output product. The non-fermentable materials are used to aerate and promote fermentation. The preferred form of the grinder unit has three rotating axles (11a, 11b, 11c) in triangular arrangement carrying chains (c) mounted in rows thereon with hardened tips (t) on their free ends. The successive grinder/separator stages grind and separate out fermented particles of successively finer particle size. The resulting fermented output product can be used as a fertilizer for topsoil. A pulverizer-grinder stage (70) has an off-center rotating axle (78) provided with chains and hardened tips for pulverizing the reject materials into smaller particles. The pulverized particles can be used to make fence parts, paving blocks, road bedding materials, etc.

    • A method for composting organic waste materials using aerobic and anaerobic decomposition processes simultaneously is disclosed. The method of the present invention is carried out by forming a compost pile (10) of aerobic material and introducing a liquid anaerobic and aerobic materials (14, 16) into the interior to form a saturated internal core. The parameters of the decomposition processes including temperature, water content, aeration, and moisture percolation are monitored to ensure that adequate conditions are met for decomposition processes to proceed simultaneously. After a predetermined time interval has passed, the core (14, 16) is removed forming an upwardly opening cavity (12) that is refilled with aerobic material preparatory to another decomposition cycle. The composting method of the present invention is adaptable to a wide range of composting operations ranging from a single compost pile to commercial scale operations involving a plurality of large compost piles being constructed using heavy equipment and managing the compost operation on a timed schedule.
