    • 446,969. Collectors for electricity. CLARK, J. H., Mowbray, Wirksworth Road, Duffield, Derbyshire. Nov. 5, 1934, Nos. 31676/34 and 21101/35. [Class 104 (iii)] [See also Groups XV, XI, and XXXVI] Model or toy railway steam locomotives having the boiler electrically heated, run over portions of electrified and unelectrified track. The electrified parts of the track are not in the open, but in tunnels or otherwise shrouded, and the contact shoes or devices on the train are shrouded by a fixed insulating block 69, Fig. 11, through which the contacts 67 are spring-pressed to meet the live rails 63. Alternatively the current is picked up by smaller diameter wheels 76, Fig. 13, coaxial with the running wheels and shrouded by them and an intermediate disc of insulating material. The live rails 63 are higher than the ordinary track rails 65, which are of nonconducting material, so that when contact is made by the train the flanged wheels are raised off the rails and the train is supported by the pick-up wheels. A train running in a circular track can be wired up to a central capstan contact in which a lower fixed part 82, Fig. 17, carries a central conductor 83 and a circular contact 84 round it on which slides a circular contact 85 of the rotary upper part 89 having a pair of sockets connected to the central and circular contacts and adapted to receive the pins of a plug 91 on an arm 92 carrying the cable connection to the train.
