    • A composition comprising kale extract and extract from at least one of artichoke, red cabbage, oregano, rosemary, sage, watercress, dog rose, mint, thyme, basil and spinach. The composition is used to make metal nanoparticles by reducing metal ions. The metal can be a salt of a chloride, sulphate, carbonate, gluconate or acetate and can be gold, silver, copper, nickel, platinum, iron, zinc, gadolinium, titanium, manganese, aluminium, zirconium, chromium, palladium or cobalt. Apparatus for forming the composition and metal nanoparticles comprise a drying unit 10 into which plant mixture is fed. Dried plants are fed into a blender 28 where they are powdered and fed into a leaching unit 32. Active ingredients are leached from the plants using water while being heated and stirred. Leachate is removed, decanted 44, filtered 54, centrifuged 60 and then fed into a reactor 66 where it is combined with a solution comprising metal ions. Metal nanoparticles are then separated using a centrifuge 72.
