    • An apparatus splices a web of paper being paid out from a one web roll and fed into a printing press to another web roll being rotated in a splicing position. The new web roll of any diameter is spaced a prescribed distance from the old web traveling along a predefined path into the press. A sensor positioning mechanism adjustably moves a photoelectric web roll speed sensor along two orthogonal axes to an optimum sensing position with respect to the new web roll regardless of its diameter. An electronic control circuit has an input connected to a speed sensor for the old web traveling along the predefined path, and another to the photoelectric speed sensor for the new web roll, for energizing a new web roll drive motor according to a departure of the peripheral speed of the new web roll from the running speed of the old web.

    • Disclosed herein is a system for preparing a microporous laminated sheet, which allows a stable breath ability of microporous film to be maintained while making an adhesion of the microporous film excellent. Also, a method of preparing the microporous laminated sheet using the system and a microporous laminated sheet prepared thereby are disclosed. The preparing system includes an adhesive-applying section serving to apply an adhesive in the linear or lattice shape on the microporous film. Also, the microporous laminated sheet includes a microporous film formed from a resin composition comprising 30 to 70% by weight of a polyolefin resin, 1 to 70% by weight of alpha-olefin copolymer, and 20 to 70% by weight of an inorganic filler; a polypropylene reinforcement bonded to one side of the microporous film and serving to reinforce the microporous film; and an adhesive interposed between the microporous film and the reinforcement in a linear or lattice shape and serving to bond the microporous film and the reinforcement to each other.

    • The present invention provides a method of making a laminated, gathered, elastic web. The method includes the steps of feeding a first substrate in a machine direction, feeding a second substrate aligned with the first substrate in the machine direction, and feeding an array of elastomeric strand material between the first and second substrates in such a manner that the elastomeric strand material is stretched in the machine direction and aligned with the first and second substrates. A hot melt pressure sensitive adhesive, such as a styrene-isoprene-styrene based adhesive, is applied to one substrate, and a curable adhesive, such as a polyurethane based adhesive, is applied to the other substrate. Thereafter, the two substrates and the elastomeric strand material are compressed to form a laminate elastic web while maintaining the elastomeric strand material in its stretched state. Machine direction tension is maintained on the laminate until the hot melt adhesive cools and bonds the layers together. Thereafter, the machine direction tension is released to permit the elastic web to contract to form a gathered elastic web.
