    • 709,855. Autographic registers. SONDON SYSTEMS CORPORATION. April 7, 1952, No. 8848/52. Class 106 (1). [Also in Group XV] In an autographic register wherein a carbon copy of sales transactions is wound on a spool 39, rotation of the spool in the winding direction is effected by movement in one direction of a slide 53 having a finger piece 25 projecting through a slot 24 along one side of the apparatus. The slide carries a sprocket wheel 67 which engages a chain 45 driving the spool, a one-way clutch being provided between the slide and the sprocket wheel. The stroke of the slide is limited by a pawl and ratchet 77, 51 controlled by a feeler 70 which drops into a T-slit in the copying-strip 33 whenever the latter has advanced by the distance between two successive T-slits. The copy-strip is originally in folded zig-zag form. On reverse movement of the slide the clutch yields and allows the sprocket 67 to rotate idly along the chain. A rack 59 carried by the slide engages a pinion 81 which, on the reverse movement of the slide, drives a roller 82 through a one-way clutch. The roller carries spiked discs which engage the top, one of a pile of blank bill forms housed within the apparatus whereby a new bill form is ejected through a slit 83 on each reverse movement of the slide.

    • 625,945. Memorandum appliances. STANDARD REGISTER CO. March 6, 1947, No. 6385. Convention date, May 14, 1945. [Class 16] A strip feeding device for recording and manifolding apparatus comprises a main feeding means continuously engaging the strip and a supplemental strip feeding device which engages the strip during its initial movement only. The record strip assembly 3, formed and mounted as described in Specification 632,590 is advanced by radial pins 10 on the driven wheels 9 engaging continuous marginal feed holes 12 in the strip. The additional feeding device in one form comprises a single pin 13 attached to each wheel 9 engaging holes 14 in the strip positioned thereon adjacent to perforated divisional lines. The diameter of wheel 9 is such that one revolution is equivalent to the length of each divisional section of the strip. The sheets are automatically prevented from getting out of phase with the writing position since if the hole 14 in the sheets is not in correct position for advancement the sheets are held away from pins 10 by the pin 13. A sheet anchoring device holding the trailing edge of the sheets comprises a pair of pins 24 which are raised to engage holes 12 at the writing position of the sheet. The -pins 24 are carried on a framework comprising adjustable arms 16 mounted on a rock shaft 17 which has an arm 19 carrying a roller 20 following a cam wheel 21 on the driving shaft 7. When a depression 23 on the cam is positioned below the roller 20 the frame 16 is raised by a spring 22 and the sheet is locked in position. In modifications the pin 10 and its corresponding hole 12 transversely in alignment with the pin 13 may be omitted, and the pin 13 may be supplemented by further pins in transverse alignment mounted on segments rotated by the main shaft, engaging further holes in the record strip. Shorter sheets can be accommodated by providing the pin wheels 9 with a number of auxiliary starting pins 13 at spaced radial positions.

    • 534,521. Autographic registers. FANFOLD, Ltd. May 30, 1939, No. 15933. Convention date, May 31, 1938. [Class 106(i)] An autographic register comprises feeding means for advancing stationery strips from a supply compartment over a platen in the top of a casing formed with a delivery outlet in one of its side walls and an additional delivery outlet behind the platen, and having guiding means to co-operate with superposed stationery strips passing from the platen for directing strips into a record compartment and towards said delivery outlets respectively. The invention relates in some respects to improvements in Specification 475,315. Crankshaft 28, driven by a hand crank and controlled by a button stop drives the feeding means B comprising a lower feed wheel 35 and an upper spring pressed wheel 38, which advance the stationery strips 19 from the supply compartment A1 over a platen 12 slightly less than the length of a form, carbon papers being interleaved with the stationery in known manner over the platen. Cam 42, Fig. 4, then operates lever 44 to separate the feed wheels and cam 58 rocks lever 55 to engage pin 53 and rock member 48, Fig. 7 which rocks aligning fingers 49 rearwardly to project into perforations in the stationery strips and complete the advancement while aligning them. The uppermost strip is guided out of the top of the machine by member 72, and may be torn off on edge 74. The lowermost strip is directed into the side chute A3 and may be torn off on edge 86. The record strip passes into the record compartment A2 and is severed against a spring-pressed blade 65 by a rotary knife 62 operated by a gear wheel 67 and rack 68 oscillated by its pin 69 engaging a slot in cam 71. In a modification, the rotary cutter 62 and blade 65 are removed and the refolding mechanism shown in Fig. 8 is substituted, cam 82 oscillating guide plate 79 to fold the strip 19. Access to the supply and record compartments is provided by hinged cover 21, hinged skeleton cover 13 and door 14 carrying a latch 16.
