    • I claim a process for producing a superior fuel from biomass by first torrefying the biomass and then densifying it to make pellets, cubes or logs with the steps of: heating biomass to a temperature of 150-300 C and preferably to 200-280 C in a heating device, and densification of the resulting torrefied biomass in a device that compresses the hot biomass to make pellets, cubes or logs. The process can be partially or totally self heating by burning the gaseous products of torrefaction in the oven surrounding the torrefication apparatus. The energy required for size reduction after torrefaction is greatly reduced and the energy required for densification is also greatly reduced.

    • This invention relates to a solid combustible element and a method for manufacturing it, whereby in the element an open or closed internal space is provided, and in this space is placed a chemical product for disintegrating a combustion deposit layer. When burning this element in a combustion device, such as e.g. a hearth or a stove, the product is released so that a combustion deposit layer (e.g. consisting of soot, ash and tar) formed on the walls of the combustion device or the smoke flue is disintegrated. The element is preferably formed by compressing an amount of loose particles of one or several solid combustible materials, such as among others wood waste and sawdust, without adding any binding agent. Such an element can be manufactured at lower raw material and production costs than the known elements in which such a product is incorporated.

    • The invention relates to a method for producing propellant compacts for use in gas generators for safety devices in motor vehicles by extrusion, comprising the following steps: mixing the constituents of the propellant and stirring the mixture into a paste with a solvent so as to form a plasticizable mass, extruding the plasticizable mass in order to form propellant compacts, and drying the propellant compacts in order to remove the solvent, a thickening agent which increases the viscosity being added to the solvent prior to pasting in a proportion of from 0.1 to 10% by weight, relative to the solvent, and the dried propellant compacts having a density of at least 70% of the theoretical density. The invention further relates to propellant compacts obtainable in accordance with this method.
