    • The control apparatus of the present invention is used for a washing machine in which a photosensor having a light emitting element and a light receiving element opposite thereto, detects the degree of light transmission in washing water, and in which, based on variations of the degree of light transmission in washing water thus detected, the respective steps of washing, rinsing and draining are controlled. Correction is made such that the photosensor presents a predetermined sensitivity to set a current which flows in the light emitting element, after which a washing operation is started. After drainage, when the next water supply operation is started and the level of water thus supplied reaches a predetermined level within a predetermined period of time, it is judged that washing water used at the previous washing remains in a washing tank. Then, control is made such that no adjustment is made of the sensitivity of the photosensor and a standard current flows in the light emitting element. Thereafter, a washing operation is started. Thus, the control apparatus of the present invention is adapted such that no influence is exerted upon the degree of washing by variations of the characteristics of light emitting elements and light receiving elements.

    • 1,089,217. Washing machines. INDUSTRIE A. ZANUSSI. Oct. 27, 1964 [Oct. 29, 1963], No. 43799/64. Heading D1A. A control circuit for an automatic washing machine comprises contacts, 1' for heater 35, 1" for exhaust pump 34, 2' for cold water supply valve 44, 2" for rotation of the clothes receptacle at high speed for spin-drying by motor 39, 3" for the timer motor 37 driving control cams, 4' for the rotation of the clothes receptacle by motor 39 at low washing speed. The motor 39 has terminal 41 for high speed connection and terminals 42, 42' for low speed connection, the latter being controlled by a reversing switch 38 for clockwise and anti-clockwise rotation. Valve 44 is also controlled by a level regulator 36. In operation, after the introduction of the washing, the operator advances the timer manually until the contact 2' is closed to admit cold water through valve 44. After the correct level is reached regulator 36 closes valve 44 and closes contacts, 1' for the heater, 3" for the timer motor and 4' for the low speed operation of the washing motor. This latter is alternately switched on and off during the washing stage to allow periods for both mechanical and chemical action on the clothes. During the "on" periods of the motor rotation is controlled by the reversing switch 38 for rotation first in one direction, a rest period, and rotation in the other direction. The "on" periods of the motor are greater than these "rest" periods during reversals. The heater stays on during most of the washing stage, so that the temperature of the water rises progressively and is not subject to thermostatic control, and is then switched off just before the completion of this stage and exhaust. The temperature reached can be varied by varying the initial manual setting of the timer so that a shorter time of wash corresponds to a lower temperature which are the conditions required for more delicate fabrics. After the washing stage is completed the water is exhausted and spin-drying and rinsing operations carried out, the low speed rotation of the receptacle alternating with high speed rotation, until a final spin-drying operation is performed.
