    • A latch (10) for removing a cover from a base includes an operable member (20) fixed to the cover, and a stationary member (50) fixed to the base. The operable member includes a frame (30), and a handle (40) pivotably mounted therein. The handle includes a tongue (45) extending therefrom, and a pair of cams (44). The stationary member includes a pedestal (60), and a plate (70) fixed on the pedestal. The plate has a projection (72) formed thereon. The cover is removed from the base by rotating the handle. This causes the tongue to press the resilient plate and thus release the projection, and the cams of the handle to abut against the pedestal to urge the operable member to slide relative to the stationary member.

    • A snap closure is provided for the detachable securement of a housing cover on a housing of a manually-guided implement, especially to secure an air filter cover that covers an air filter of an internal combustion engine for driving a tool of the implement. At least one snap hook is provided on one of the components that are to be secured together, namely the cover and the housing. The snap hook is provided on an end of an elastically deflectable leg that is disposed on the one component. The snap hook is tapered in the manner of a detent and when the cover is mounted on the housing the snap hook, accompanied by an elastic return force, is engagable in an undercut provided on the other component. The snap hook is deflectable in or parallel to a surface plane on the one component that carries the snap hook.

    • An upper case 5 is pivotable with respect to a case 2 by attachment with two frames 37. A sheet-supply tray 6 is pivotably mounted on the upper case 5. The sheet-supply tray 6 has a pair of left and right guides 35, 35 at a position near a sheet-supply port 13. The guides 35, 35 have a pair of separation ribs 42, 42 that define therebelow a sheet-supply pathway and thereabove a sheet discharge pathway. A synthetic resin hollow frame 40 with an integral slide rib 41 is fixed to the case 2. The slide rib 41 is formed with an outwardly curving surface 41a that is eccentric with an imaginary circle around a pivot shaft 38 of the upper case 5, wherein the free end of the slide rib 41 is farther from the shaft 38 than the fixed end. A horizontally protruding pin is fixed on one of the frames 37, and so pivots following the imaginary circle around the shaft 38. When the upper case 5 is pivoted wide open, the pin 39 pressingly slides against the outwardly curving surface 41a of the slide rib 41, until the pin 39 reaches near the free end of the outwardly curving surface 41a, where the pin 39 is held in a desired opened position.

    • A vehicle body panel is rotatable about a lower horizontal axis and has a clip latch at the upper portion of the panel that catches the edge portion of an adjacent stationary panel to trap the edge portion of an adjacent panel between the clip latch and the movable panel. The clip latch has a ramp surface engagable with the adjacent stationary panel to slightly deflect the movable panel away from the stationary panel until the ramp portion has cleared the edge of the stationary panel. The clip latch only locks the movable panel in the closed position, not the open position, so that the panel can be moved from the open to the closed position when standing in a position in which the clip latch can not be reached.

    • A latching mechanism for a pedestal closure assembly has a pair of substantially channel-shaped slots, each slot having two arms, a flanged base and first and second ends. Each flanged base has a cam-like edge and is connected to the second end of each respective slot. The cam-like edge interconnects the upper and lower surfaces of the flanged base. A pair of legs adapted to be received by each slot are also included in the claimed latching mechanism. Each leg has a limiting edge and includes an end portion adapted to limit the motion of the legs when they are received in the respective slots. At least one flexible latch arm adapted to engage the flanged base of at least one of the slots is connected to one of the legs. Each latch arm includes a finger element beyond the end portion of the limiting edge of the leg. The finger element includes an engagement portion which abuts the lower surface of the flanged base of the leg when the leg is received in its respective slot. The finger element has a cam-follower surface which bears against the cam-like edge of the slot which flexes the latch arm allowing the engagement portion to move beyond the cam-like edge of the flanged base of the slot so that the latch arm engages the flanged base. Thus, the slot is configured and dimensioned to slidingly receive each leg. The latching mechanism and the pedestal closure assembly can be constructed of non-metallic material. Each leg of the latching mechanism can contain a spacer bead and a transverse flange, each flexible latch arm can include an integral lip, and each slot can contain a guide rail. All of these are included to keep the legs more firmly secured in the slots when the latching mechanism is engaged. Additionally, the pedestal closure assembly can have a service wire passageway with a channel slot which allows the internal equipment to be worked on without having to interrupt service and without having to unearth the lower housing section.

    • Two parts (120, 160) can be mated and secured from relative movement in three different orthogonal directions or planes by the use of a novel, two piece, plastic fastener structure. The snap fastener has an integral interlocking tab (170) that serves to constrain the movement in a third direction or plane. The snap fastener additionally consists of an operative component (110) and a securing component (150). The operative component has a resilient member (112) that deforms to receive a catch member (152) on the securing component when the operative component and the securing component are snapped or mated together. One of the two components contains an opening (180), while the other contains a body portion shaped more or less like a tab or tongue which is capable of being inserted within the opening when the two components are mated. When so inserted, the relative movement of the two components is restricted in three directions, without the use of a remotely located securing means.
