    • A room air conditioner includes an air inlet, an air outlet, a heat exchanger disposed between the inlet and outlet, and an air circulation fan. The inlet is opened and closed by motor-driven inlet vanes. The outlet is opened and closed by a vertically slidable motor-driven door. Air direction control vanes extend across the outlet for varying the direction of discharged air. Before the door is either opened or closed, the air control vanes are automatically swung upwardly to a clearance position to avoid interfering with movement of the door. When the inlet and outlet are to be closed, the inlet vane motor is actuated prior the door motor to ensure that the inlet and outlet are fully closed simultaneously, even though it takes longer for the inlet vanes to travel to their fully closed state. A sensor determines when the door reaches an almost-closed state, and the door motor continues to operate for a set period thereafter to ensure that the door becomes fully closed.

    • There is disclosed a ventilator for use with windows, doors, or other building hardware. The ventilator includes an inner plate having air vents and an outer plate spaced apart from the inner plate in the transverse direction of the ventilator and providing an opening displaced from the air vents. Provided between the inner and outer plates are a filter and a partition extending from the inner plate toward the outer plate until it abuts against the filter. The partition is adapted to direct a flow of air from the opening to the air vents at least twice through the filter. The ventilator is prefabricated as a unit and is easily installed within the windows, doors and the like.

    • A chemisorption thermal system provides a cooling output by revolving an array of thermal elements through heat sink and heat source temperature zones defined within a cylindrical housing. Each thermal element is an enclosed elongated body having an absorbent material at one end and a reactant containing part at the other end. Reactant is desorbed from the absorbent material in one part of the thermal cycle, and then evaporated from the reactant containing part to provide a cooling output in another part of the cycle. It is particularly suitable as a vehicle air conditioner using the engine waste heat as a heat source and the vehicle radiator as a heat sink. The invention also makes use of dry chemical absorbent materials which have high heats of reaction allowing the system to have a high heat capacity and low volume. The thermal cycle may be reversed to provide a heating output.
