摘要： The invention concerns recyclable optical discs, method for production thereof, and a new use of paper or cardboard sheets. The discs comprise a substrate (48) having two opposite surfaces, a planar polymeric coating layer (46) on at least one of the surfaces, and a high-resolution pattern formed in the polymeric coating layer (46). According to the invention, the substrate (48) comprises a coated paper or cardboard sheet (42, 44) having a bending stiffness (ISO 2493) of 3,0 mNm or more in the machine direction and 2,0 mNm or more in the cross direction. The resulting discs may serve as an environmentally friendly and inexpensive media for limited or unlimited time storage of data.

摘要： A method for recording and replaying operations in a computer environment utilizes initial conditions of the computer environment at the start of a recording to configure a replay computer environment during replay. The initial conditions of the computer environment are saved prior to recording of user inputs to the computer environment. 摘要： The use of latent semantic indexing (LSI) for information retrieval and text mining operations is adapted to work on large heterogeneous data sets by first partitioning the data set into a number of smaller partitions having similar concept domains. A similarity graph network is generated in order to expose links between concept domains which are then exploited in determing which domains to query as well as in expanding the query vector. LSI is performed on those partitioned data sets most likely to contain information related to the user query or text mining operation. In this manner LSI can be applied to datasets that heretofore presented scalability problems. Additionally, the computation of the singular value decomposition of the term-by-document matrix can be accomplished at various distributed computers increasing the robustness of the retrieval and text mining system while decreasing search times.

摘要： A disc drive designed to hold a cartridge containing an optical data storage disk is compatible with a memory card slot in a host digital electronics device such as a PDA, for example a slot designed for a Type I CompactFlash card. The disc drive contains a body assembly which is inserted into the memory card slot and which has a compatible connector at one end. The disc drive also includes a drive mechanism which contains the spindle motor and optics systems and which is located outside the memory card slot when the drive is in operation. The drive mechanism is lifted from the body assembly to form an opening to a tray into which a cartridge is loaded. The drive mechanism is then pressed against the body assembly to close the cartridge tray and to cause the spindle motor assembly to engage the optical disc within the cartridge. To minimize the extent to which the disc drive protrudes from the host device, part of the cartridge extends into the memory card slot when the disc drive is connected to the host.

摘要： Holographic data storage systems are fixed after exposure during which data in the form of holograms are stored at locations in the medium (4). Sufficient fixing energy in the form of light or other electromagnetic and thermal radiation is applied to the media (4) either by flooding the media, or to specific locations where the medium has been written. The energy is sufficient to expose the recorded medium (4) to prevent recording in the unused dynamic range thereof. Such recording can be a spurious recording made during readout or from spurious sources of light incident on the media. In one embodiment, the reference beam (108) produced in the course of holographic recording is redirected to locations on the media (4) which have already been recorded. The redirected beam post exposes the media to fix these locations against spurious recording. The integrity of the holographic data storage systems and the robustness thereof is improved by fixing methods and apparatus incorporating the invention.

摘要： An LPF performs low-pass filtering for a light reception signal responsive to return light received by an optical pickup. A comparator makes a comparison between the level of the signal output from the LPF and a predetermined threshold value and outputs a high or low pulse signal MIR.
