    • Disclosed are an optical system driving device, for preventing the unwanted vibration of an elastic member supporting a holder on which an object lens is mounted, as well as resolving a resonance frequency problem and for increasing manufacturing efficiency and reducing the number of parts required, and an optical recording apparatus incorporating such an optical system driving device. The optical system driving device includes a holder holding an optical element; support means for supporting the holder and permitting its displacement in a focusing direction; a carriage mounting the holder and the support means moving in a tracking direction; drive coils included in the holder for displacing the holder in the focusing direction; and a flexible printed board supplying a drive current to the drive coils. The support means includes a fixed portion and an elastic member, one end of which is fixed to the fixed portion and the other end of which is connected to the holder. Further, a vibration damping member, connected to the fixed portion, is mounted on the side of the elastic member and is sandwiched between the flexible printed board and the elastic member.

    • A disc case having a case main unit including an accommodation chamber for rotatably accommodating a disc having a signal recording surface on at least one side of the disc, support member access openings provided in the top and bottom walls of the accommodation chamber so that a chucking member can apply an external pressure to the disc, a head access opening formed in the top or bottom wall of the accommodation chamber and tangent to the side wall surface of the accommodation chamber so that a read/write head can read and/or record signals on the signal recording surface of the disc, and a concave portion formed in an area extending from the side wall surface at the head access opening to the front fringe portion of the case main unit and concave with respect to the top or bottom surface of the main unit of the case. The disc case also includes a shutter installed on the case main unit to cover the support member access openings, the head access opening and the concave portion when the shutter is closed. The shutter opens to expose the support member access openings and the head access opening by sliding in at least one direction from the covered position along the front fringe portion of the case main unit. A shielding portion provided on the case main unit shields all or a part of the passages communicating with the accommodation chamber even when the shutter is closed.

    • This invention relates to a universal mass storage information card comprising a first data storage portion having a circular geometry in the form of a disk and a second data storage portion physically detachable from the first data storage portion with the second data storage portion defining a geometrical area disposed within the periphery of the first portion and being concentric therewith, with the first data storage portion including software to verify user identification when the two data storage portions are combined and software to read and download information contained in the second data storage portion when the two are inserted as a combined unit into a data processing machine. In the preferred embodiment the information tracks of the first data storage portion form a spiral geometry extending into the second data storage portion and software is included in the mass storage information card in the form of an algorithm which identifies the sections of information track in the second data storage portion to which information can be written when separated from the first data storage portion. The invention also includes a drive assembly to enable data to be read from and transferred to the detachable second data storage portion of the mass storage information card when separated from the first data storage portion.
