摘要： The glass sheet production method of the present invention is a method for producing a surface-modified glass sheet, including a gas contact step of bringing hydrogen fluoride (HF) gas, hydrogen chloride (HCl) gas, and water vapor into contact with at least one principal surface of a glass sheet. A gas containing the hydrogen fluoride (HF) gas is used in the gas contact step, and in the gas containing the hydrogen fluoride (HF) gas, a volume ratio of the water vapor to the hydrogen fluoride (HF) gas (volume of water vapor / volume of HF gas) is 8 or more.

摘要： Methods of fabricating dimensional silica-based substrates or structures comprising a porous silicon layers are contemplated. According to one embodiment, oxygen is extracted from the atomic elemental composition of a silica glass substrate by reacting a metallic gas with the substrate in a heated inert atmosphere to form a metal-oxygen complex along a surface of the substrate. The metal-oxygen complex is removed from the surface of the silica glass substrate to yield a crystalline porous silicon surface portion and one or more additional layers are formed over the crystalline porous silicon surface portion of the silica glass substrate to yield a dimensional silica-based substrate or structure comprising the porous silicon layer. Embodiments are also contemplated where the substrate is glass-based, but is not necessarily a silica-based glass substrate. Additional embodiments are disclosed and claimed.

The method of producing a porous glass includes: immersing the phase-separated glass in a bath containing an acid solution; setting an angle θ, which is formed by a surface to be porosified of the phase-separated glass and a bath liquid surface, to 10° or more to 90° or less; and irradiating the bath with an ultrasonic wave to etch the phase-separated glass, thereby obtaining the porous glass.

摘要： A reflectron lens for a time-of-flight mass spectrometer is disclosed. The reflectron lens includes a glass tube having a conductive surface along the length of the tube. The conductive surface has an electrical resistance gradient along its length. The electrical resistance gradient provides an electric field interior to the tube that varies in strength along the length of the tube when an electric potential is applied to opposing ends of the tube. A mass spectrometer incorporating the reflectron lens, a method of making the reflectron lens, and an apparatus for removing lead from the surface of a lead silicate glass tube are also disclosed.

摘要： Provided is a process for readily producing fine particles of a solid solution having a small particle size, comprising a solid solution of zirconia, ceria and a rare earth oxide in a desired composition, and being highly crystalline.
The process for producing the fine particles of the solid solution comprises the following steps in the order named: obtaining a melt comprising, in terms of mol% on an oxide basis, from 5 to 50% ZrO 2 , CeO 2 and RE 2 O 3 (where RE is at least one member selected from rare earth elements other than Ce) in total, from 10 to 50% RO (where R is at least one member selected from the group consisting of Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba and Zn), and from 30 to 75% B 2 O 3 ; quenching the melt to obtain an amorphous material; heating the amorphous material to obtain precipitates containing crystals of a solid solution with ZrO 2 , CeO 2 and RE 2 O 3; and separating the crystals of the solid solution from the precipitates to obtain fine particles of the solid solution.

The procedure to remove vitreous enamels or spelter consists on dipping the enamelled pieces inside a container or pan at a higher temperature than the ambient temperature.
