摘要： An error correction system for a compact disk drive which is operable to correct either computer data or subcodes stored in the buffer. The error correction system comprises: a controller which outputs a mode signal indicative of whether computer data or digital audio subcodes is being corrected; a syndrome generator which generates one of computer data syndromes and subcode syndromes in accordance with the signal outputted by the controller; an error pattern generator which, under control of the controller, uses syndromes generated by the syndrome generator to generate error patterns; wherein, in accordance with the mode signal and the syndromes generated by the syndrome generator, the controller selects from a plurality of error pattern generation procedures for controlling error pattern generation by the error pattern generator.

摘要： An apparatus and method for recording on and reproducing from a magnetic tape (111) a digital signal (41) by rotating heads (100). A synchronizing signal (20), a control signal (21), and an error correction code (23) are added to the digital signal (41), and the digital signal with those signals added is converted into a block form. At the recording time, a recording signal produced from a recording circuit (412) is recorded on the recording medium by a first head (D1) of the rotating heads (100), and at the same time the recorded signal is reproduced by a second head (D2) of the rotating heads (100). In addition, there are provided a first recording mode in which error correction codes are doubly added, and a second recording mode in which the error correction codes are triply added. Thus, the recorded signal can be confirmed by the simultaneous playback made at the recording time so that the reliability in data can be assured.
