    • An image scanning device includes a first scanner (141) scanning a top side of a transported document at a first scanning position (L1) to obtain a first scanned image, a second scanner (129) scanning the back side of the transported document at a second scanning position (L2) to obtain a second scanned image, a document feeder (63-70, 161) transporting a document at the second scanning position at a speed differing from the transportation speed at the first scanning position, and a controller (20) controlling the image scanning device. The controller sets, as a scanning form of a document, either one-side scanning of scanning one side of a document through one transportation, or dual-side scanning of scanning both sides of a document through one transportation. The controller also obtains a set magnification. The controller determines the transportation speed by the document feeder such that, when one-side scanning is set, the scanning magnification in a first direction corresponding to the document transportation direction at the first scanned image attains the set magnification, and when dual-side scanning is set, the scanning magnification in the first direction at the second scanned image attains the set magnification.

    • An image is generated by exposing the surface to a scanning laser beam in accordance with an image forming process. The intermediate image transfer member receives the image from the image carrying member and transfers it onto a recording sheet. The memory stores a plurality of values of process line speeds A for defining a speed of an image forming process in a sub-scanning direction, and a plurality of values of process line speeds B for defining a speed of the image transfer process. The controller makes a plurality of combinations of the process line speeds A and B by arbitrarily selecting one of the plurality of values of selectable process line speeds. According to another aspect, a voltage sensor detects a voltage of the photoconductor, a toner deposition sensor detects an amount of toner deposition on the photoconductor member, a charging member provides a charge onto the photoconductor, a grid adjusting member controls a grid voltage of the charging member, a laser exposure unit exposes the photoconductor to a laser beam, an exposure adjusting member adjusts an amount of a laser beam exposure, and a development gamma detect member detects a development gamma line by performing a sequential operation. A reference table includes information to determine appropriate voltage values of the photoconductor, a development bias and an after-exposure voltage of the photoconductor in accordance with the development gamma line obtained with the development gamma detect member. A controller detects the voltage of the photoconductor rotating in each of the process line speeds and determines optimum values of the grid voltage of the charging member and the amount of laser beam exposure from the laser exposure unit to obtain the respective required voltage level used by the grid adjusting member, and the after-exposure voltage used by the exposure adjusting member, on the basis of the detected voltage and with reference to the information included in the reference table.

    • An aspect of the invention provides an image scanner (100, 123) which can continuously transfer image data of one surface to an external device (image forming apparatus) without performing control such as interruption and resumption of an original scanning operation. The image scanner (100, 123) includes a size detection unit (501, 502) which detects an original size and a determination unit (501, 502) which determines whether or not the image data relating to an original of the size detected by the size detection unit (501, 502) can be stored in a storage unit (305). The image scanner (100, 123) also includes a control unit (320).
