    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound excellent in vacuum deposition property, functioning as an electron transporting agent excellent in element stability and brightness characteristics when used for organic electroluminescence elements and useful for organic electroluminescence materials, etc. SOLUTION: This compound is represented by formula I or II [(l) is >=1; when (l) is >=2, R1 to R10 are each H or the like; when (l) is 1, R2 and R6 are each an alkoxy or the like; R3 and R7 are each H or the like; Z1 and Z2 exhibits oxygen or the like and when both thereof are sulfur, at least one of R1 to R8 is a group other than H atom; (m), (p) and (p') are each >=1; (n) is 1-4; R11 to R23 are each H or the like; Z3 and Z4 are each oxygen or the like], e.g. a compound of formula III. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting a compound of formula IV (e.g. a compound of formula V) with an acid chloride of formula VI (e.g. reaction product of 1,5-thiophenedicarboxylic acid with thionyl chloride) and reacting the resultant compound under heating in the presence of an acid catalyst such as p-toluenesulfonic acid monohydrate.
