    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal transfer recording material containing an azomethine coloring matter which has a sharp spectroabsorption, a high molecular extinction coefficient and excellent stability to heat/light or a metal complex formed of the azomethine coloring matter and a metal, and a thermal transfer recording method using this material. SOLUTION: This thermal transfer recording material contains the azomethine coloring matter of a specific structure and a metal complex azomethine coloring matter. In addition, the thermal transfer recording method comprises the procedures: an image receiving material having a coloring matter image receiving layer with a chemical compound containing a metallic ion on a support is laminated on the thermal transfer recording material, then the thermal transfer recording material is heated in accordance with image information, and an image of a metal chelate coloring matter is formed in the image receiving material by a chemical reaction between the azomethine coloring matter or the metal complex azomethine coloring matter and the metallic ion.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming method using a coloring matter thermal transfer system which has high-speed printing suitability and an excellent light resistance and enables attainment of a high image density and also excels in a reverse transfer resistance of an image. SOLUTION: An ink layer of a thermal transfer ink sheet which has the ink layer containing thermally-diffusive coloring matter chelatable with a metal, and a coloring matter accepting layer of a thermal transfer image accepting sheet which has the coloring matter accepting layer containing a metal ion containing compound capable of forming a metal chelate compound in reaction with the chelatable thermally-diffusive coloring matter, are superposed on a base sheet and heated in the shape of the image in conformity with recording signals so that the thermally-diffusive coloring matter of the thermal transfer ink sheet is transferred onto the thermal transfer image accepting sheet. In this image forming method, the thermal transfer image accepting sheet contains a polyvinyl acetal resin, while a ligand capable of coordinating with a metal ion coordinates with the metal ion in the metal ion containing compound and ClogP of the ligand is 6.0 or above.
