In the formulae I, II, X1 and X2 are a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group, Y1 and Y2 are an oxygen atom or a sulfur atom, R1 is a hydrogen atom or the like, R2 is an alkyl group or the like and R3 , R4 and R5 are an alkyl group or the like and either one of R3 and R4 may be a hydrogen atom. By this constitution, a thermal recording material excellent in color forming sensitivity and enhanced in the storage stability of an undeveloped part and a developed color image is obtained.

In the formulas, X1 , X2 represent hydrogen atom, alkyl group, alkoxy group, aralkyl group, aryl group or halogen atom, Y1 , Y2 represent oxygen atom or sulphur atom, R1 represents hydrogen atom, alkyl group, aralkyl group or aryl group, R2 represents alkyl group, alkenyl group, aralkyl group or aryl group, X3 -X12 represent hydrogen atom, alkyl group, alkoxy group or halogen atom. It never occurs that X3 -X12 represent hydrogen atom at the same time.

The molar ratio of the component A:B is 50:50 and the amount of the component C used is preferably 0.3-3mols based on 1mol of the total of the components A and B.

This coating solution is applied to a support such as of paper, plastic film or synthetic paper and the coated support is dried to form the recording layer to obtain a recording material. As a concrete example of the electron accepting compound, there are 4-tert-butylphenol, 4-tert-octylphenol and 4-tert-phenylphenol. Pigment, metal soap, a surfactant or the like can be added to the recording layer if necessary.
