摘要： PURPOSE:To remove black oxides dropping from carbon fiber into an alkaline electrolyte and stably obtain carbon fiber excellent in adhesion by circulating and using the alkaline electrolyte while cleaning the electrolyte with an anion exchange substance in treating the surface of the carbon fiber. CONSTITUTION:The surface of carbon fiber is subjected to electrolytic oxidation treatment using the carbon fiber as an anode and an alkaline electrolyte obtained from, e.g. sodium hydroxide, at pH>=8. In the process, the above- mentioned electrolyte is passed through a column filled with a well-known anion exchange resin, anion exchange membrane, etc., and circulated for use while being cleaned. Thereby, black oxide substances falling off or dissolved from the aforementioned fiber are efficiency removed to continuously and stably provide high-quality carbon fiber excellent in adhesion to matrix resins.

摘要： PURPOSE:To obtain a carbon fiber containing little micro-void in the fiber and having excellent crystallinity and density and high strength and elastic modulus by subjecting a carbon fiber precursor to flame-resistant treatment and infusibilization in an oxidizing atmosphere and baking in an inert atmosphere under isotropic pressure. CONSTITUTION:A polymer mixture composed of 98% acrylonitrile and 2% methacrylic acid is dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide, etc., and extruded through a spinneret into a coagulation bath. The spun fiber is drawn to obtain a carbon fiber precursor, which is heated in an oxidizing atmosphere at 240-280 deg.C to obtain a flame-resistant or infusibilized precursor. The product is wound on a graphite cylinder, placed in a hot-isotropic pressurizing apparatus in stretched state and baked in an inert atmosphere at 1000-1500 deg.C to obtain the objective carbon fiber having a nitrogen content N (%) satisfying the relationship N>=0.04(Lc-30) +0.5 at Lc =0.5 at Lc>30.

The resulting material is suitable for the use where both a high tensile strength and a high compression strength are required, such as for a structural material of an air plane.
