    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optically anisotropic material and an optical element, having high refractive index anisotropy and excellent blue laser fastness, and inhibiting the elevation of melting point of a liquid crystal composition and transmittance loss of a cured material, and a new liquid crystal composition for forming them. SOLUTION: A compound is expressed by following formula (1): A-Ph-E 1 -Ph-(Ph) m -(E 2 ) n -B-R 2 (wherein, A is CH 2 =CR 1 -COO-(L) k -, or 1-8C alkyl or alkoxy; R 1 is H or methyl; L is -(CH 2 ) p O- or -(CH 2 ) q -; k is 0 or 1; B is -CH 2 -, -OCH 2 -, -SiH 2 - or -Si(CH 3 ) 2 ; R 2 is 1-7C alkyl or alkoxy; m and n are each independently 0 or 1; E 1 and E 2 are each a cyclic group obtained by substituting the fourth position carbon atom or first position carbon atom of a trans 1,4-cyclohexylene group with a silicon atom, provided that X 1 and X 2 are each independently H or methyl).
